Friday, October 18th | 3:00 pm | Back Fields and PAAC

Join us on Friday, October 18th, as we continue our Homecoming tradition! We are excited to welcome students, alumni, parents, grandparents, families, faculty, and friends to Covenant’s campus for an afternoon of food, fun, and games. Events include a Pep Rally, Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer games, a Girls Varsity Volleyball game, concessions and more! All proceeds from Homecoming will support the Jade A. Williamson and Tyler Luiz Simoes Memorial Scholarship Fund, which honors the legacies of CCA students Jade Williamson and Tyler Simoes by generously blessing a male and a female USLR student each year.

Homecoming is a wonderful opportunity for Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric School families to come together for a memorable and fun afternoon, and it would not be possible without our parent volunteers’ generous help and support. Recognizing that parents are at different stages in their ability to volunteer, we have a place for all commitment levels, and WE NEED YOU! Volunteering opportunities include donating your time during Homecoming or donating a snack item for our Upper School or the concession booths.

GRAMMAR SCHOOL

Exploring the Scientific Method in Sixth Grade Science

In Sixth Grade Science, Mrs. Baker’s and Mrs. Christensen’s classes are revisiting the Scientific Method as a framework for discovery and study. This week students tested the measure of time needed to dissolve a skittle related to water temperature. Students identified the independent (temperature) and dependent (time) variables to test their hypothesis. They tested with accuracy using stop watches and recorded data to share their findings.

Cougars RoundUp!

Wednesday, 9/18:

Boys Varsity Soccer: CCA 0 vs Gann 2

The CCA Cougars put up a strong fight against Gann Academy in a hard-fought match today. The first half saw both teams evenly matched, with neither able to find the back of the net until Gann scored in the final five minutes. Undeterred, the Cougars entered the second half with renewed determination. Unfortunately, Gann quickly netted a second goal. Despite the outcome, both teams showcased impressive skill, strategy, and passion throughout the game.

Co-Ed Cross Country

The Cross Country teams participated in the CSW/Weston/Jericho Forest meet. Both CCA Boys and Girls teams had an awesome showing both individually and as teams. For the first time as a program at Covenant, we were able to put together 5 runners for each race. Cross Country/long distance running is new to most of the team members this year. The 2.9 mile course was the longest some of our team has run so far and their times and places were very encouraging.

Running for the boys were: Drew M (’29), Clayton Adams (’26), Braylan Ford (’28), Elliot Smith (’28), and Jack Trumbull (’28).
Running for the girls were: Lilly Stuart (’27), Nora Robinson (’25), Beatrice Kline (’27), Tatum Christiansen (’27), Elle Blosser (’27), and Ava Mosley (’27).

Thursday, 9/19:

Boys JV Soccer: CCA 5 vs Brimmer & May 5

The CCA boys faced a tough challenge against a well-coached team on a much larger turf field than they’re accustomed to. After a high-scoring first half, they entered the break down 4-3. Both teams tightened their control in the second half, ultimately finishing the game in a thrilling 5-5 draw. Goals were scored by Jacob Williamson (‘26), Nathan Cerqueira (‘27) (2), Mikey Graves (‘26), and Ezekiel Belote (‘26), showcasing the team’s resilience and teamwork. The boys demonstrated great skill and determination throughout the match, setting a solid foundation for future games.

Friday, 9/20:

Girls Varsity Volleyball: CCA 3 vs CHCH 0 (25-8. 25-7, 25-10)

The Girls Varsity Volleyball team traveled to CHCH on Friday night and won in convincing fashion: 25-8, 25-7, 25-10. The girls were powerful from behind the service line, and efficient with limited opportunities to attack. Leanna Rothier (’27) led the Cougars’ attack with 6 kills and 5 service aces. Riley Baird (’25) provided 11 assists and added 10 service aces of her own. All six starters had kills, and seven different players tallied at least one service ace during the match. It was a comprehensive team victory.

Girls Varsity Soccer: CCA 3 vs Brimmer & May 1

The Cougars secured a solid 3-1 victory over IGC rival Brimmer & May, improving their record to 4-0 this season. Nova Jones (’27) got things started with a goal off a corner kick in the first half, giving CCA a 1-0 lead at halftime. After Brimmer equalized with a free kick goal early in the second half, CCA responded quickly. Carys Walters (’25) delivered a precise pass to Jones, who skillfully found the side netting to restore the lead. The Cougars extended their advantage when Greta Baird (’26) scored her first goal of the season. Outside backs Elsa Williams (’25) and Samantha Seiler (’28) were dominant throughout the match, contributing significantly to the team’s performance.

Boys Varsity Soccer: CCA 5 vs CSW 0

The Covenant Boys Varsity Soccer team achieved an impressive 5-0 victory over CSW. The Cougars started strong, dominating the offensive play in the first half. Bennett Plosker (‘25) opened the scoring, followed by a goal from Wes Libby (‘28). Jacob Libby (‘25) then netted the third goal with a powerful header off a corner kick from Isaac Portugal (‘25), ending the first half with a 3-0 lead.

The second half saw the boys maintain their momentum. Plosker scored his second goal, again assisted by Portugal. As the game neared its conclusion, Colin Moll (‘25) capped off the scoring with a stunning goal, sealing the victory. Honorable mentions go to Simeon Yen (‘26) and Lukas Badaro (‘25), who both showcased exceptional skill and strategy throughout the match.

Girls JV Volleyball: CCA 2 vs CHCH 0 (25-14, 25-23)

The Girls JV Volleyball team had a successful outing at CHCH on Friday, winning in two sets: 25-14 and 25-23. The Cougars were particularly strong from the service line, with standout performances from Sophie Ray (’28), Copley Shea (’28), Julia Baia (’27), and Chloe D (’29). However, it was truly a team effort, as every player contributed to the victory. The girls chased down every ball, created multiple bump-set-spike opportunities, and ensured everyone had a meaningful role in the win. Great job, team!

Monday, 9/23:

Boys Varsity Soccer: CCA4 vs BUA 0

The CCA boys delivered an outstanding performance against Boston University Academy, clinching a decisive 4-0 victory. The first half was tense, with the Cougars dominating the offensive play. Jacob Libby (‘25) opened the scoring with a powerful shot, putting CCA up 1-0 at halftime. The second half saw the team ramp up their intensity. Jacob Libby quickly added to his tally, scoring off a corner kick from Isaac Portugal (‘25) with a well-placed header. He then completed his hat-trick with another goal, again assisted by Portugal. Ethan Velasquez-Perdomo (‘27) capped off the scoring with a goal from a penalty kick, bringing the final score to 4-0. The Cougars played hard and showcased great teamwork throughout the match.

Tuesday, 9/24:

Boys Middle School Soccer: CCA 4 vs NSCS 0

The Boys Middle School Soccer team dominated their match against NSCS, securing a convincing 4-0 victory. From the very start, the Cougars controlled the game. Kaleb S (‘29) led the scoring with two goals, while Judah L (‘29) and Zeb B (‘29) each added to the tally. Notably, Zeb’s goal came after a brilliant bicycle shot on target from Hudson B (‘29), which he expertly followed up on for the rebound. Assists were credited to Cole M (‘29) and Nolan W (‘30), who provided key setups for their teammates. It was a strong team performance, showcasing skill and teamwork throughout the match!

Girls Varsity Volleyball: CCA 3 vs Brimmer 0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-10)

The Girls Varsity Volleyball team hosted Brimmer on Tuesday evening, and they won in straight sets: 25-11, 25-12, 25-10. The girls played a strong all-around game, combining as a team for 30 service aces and 24 kills. The Cougars’ attack was balanced throughout the match. Riley Baird (’25) had 7 kills, while Magdalen Miller (’25) and Leanna Rothier (’27) had 5 kills each. Riley also distributed 15 assists, and Leanna added 4 assists during the match. On defense, liberos Allie Freedman and Ella Chewning made several digs and provided needed energy in the back row.

Wednesday, 9/25:

Co-Ed Cross Country

Both the boys and girls Cross Country teams had a fantastic day at the Lars Anderson Course in Brookline! This course had a few long steep hills (nothing like they’ve experienced running around Peabody) but our runners kept pace and had a great showing.

Running for the boys were: Clayton Adams (’26), Elliot Smith (’28), Braylan Ford (’28), and Jack Trumbull (’28).
Running for the girls were: Nora Robinson (’25), Lilly Stuart (’27), Elle Blosser (’27), and Tatum Christiansen (’27).

Girls Varsity Volleyball: CCA 3 vs CHCH 0 (25-10, 25-9, 25-9)

The Girls Varsity Volleyball team hosted CHCH on Wednesday afternoon, and our girls won in straight sets: 25-10, 25-9, 25-9. The Cougars were dominant from behind the service line, with six different players combining for a total of 38 aces during the match. Leanna Rothier (’27) led the Cougars in scoring with 19 service aces and 9 kills on 11 attacks, and senior captain Riley Baird (’25) kept the offense organized while providing 14 assists. The girls are back in action on Friday evening when they host Montrose!

Boys JV Soccer: CCA 3 vs CHCH 1

The JV team showed great resilience in their match against a CHCH side that has made significant improvements. After conceding an early goal, the Cougars increased their intensity in midfield, playing with renewed confidence and pressing forward on the attack. Nathan Cerqueira (’27) was on fire, scoring two goals, while Jacob Williamson (’26) added another to secure the victory. The team’s determination and teamwork were key in turning the game around!

Girls Varsity Soccer: CCA 5 vs CSW 1

CCA Girls Varsity Soccer improved to 5-0 on the season with a 5-1 away win at IGC opponent, CSW. You could not start a match much better than CCA did as center back Evie Hammond (’25) sent an early free kick over the CSW backline for striker Carys Walters (’25) to run onto and finish her 2nd goal of the season giving CCA the 1-0 lead inside the 1st minute. Leah McEachern (’26) netted two great first half goals leading to a 3-1 lead for the Cougars at halftime. The 2nd half saw tremendous team defending and an opportunistic CCA side extend their lead to 5-1. Evie Hammond scored her first of the 2024 season off of a well taken free kick from over 30 yards away. In the 62nd minute, Central midfielder, Greta Baird (’26) showed a great individual effort as she maneuvered by multiple CSW defenders and finished her 2nd goal of the season. Throughout the match, CCA was tenacious and tough, led by a tremendous effort from Anna Jukanovich (’25) in the midfield. Winger Marina Santos (’28) also played her strongest match of her young Varsity career. Next up for the Cougars is a trip to the Waring School for another IGC match up this Friday!
