CCA’s Annual 100th Day of School Service ProjectMonday, January 27th–Wednesday, February 12th
This month CCA will be honoring our annual commitment to support a valuable Peabody organization that we have partnered with for more than 10 years! Citizens Inn/Haven from Hunger includes a food pantry and community meals program. The food pantry provides free, nutrient dense food to low and moderate-income families and individuals.
Clients may visit the pantry once every seven days to receive groceries that help them stretch their budgets and allow them to take care of other critical needs such as personal health, housing, utilities, and student loans. Haven serves more than 5,500 unique individuals from Peabody, Salem, and Lynnfield (nearly 1,000 households per week) and distributes more than 2 million pounds of food each year. The community meals program offers guests a filling, nutritious supper four nights a week and is open to anyone, from all communities. Approximately 15,600 meals are served annually.
Please refer to the attached flyer to discover how your child’s class/grade will be participating in the effort in honor of our 100th Day of School. We invite you to help your classrooms achieve the possible goal of collecting 100 designated items to help others in need.
Please bring your contributions to any of the drop locations (PreK/K entrance, PAAC connector hallway, or USLR entrance) between January 27th and February 12th.
USLR students will receive House points for most items collected!
Thanks for all you are able to do for our Peabody community! |

Strep Throat
Strep throat is caused by a bacterial infection in the throat after coming in close contact with another infected individual. Strep often presents with a sore throat (especially with swallowing), but may also include symptoms of fever, headache, stomach ache, body rash, or swollen glands in the neck. It can be diagnosed by a health care provider with a throat swab, and requires antibiotic treatment.
We have seen increased incidence of strep throat in the school community over the past week. Please monitor your student for symptoms, and seek evaluation from their pediatrician if indicated. If your child is diagnosed with strep throat, please keep them home from school until they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours, have been fever-free for 24 hours, and are feeling well enough to return to school.
Please also consider the following precautions to prevent the spread of strep throat: 1. Thoroughly wash hands after blowing your nose and before eating or preparing food. 2. Wash dishes in hot, soapy water, or in a dishwasher. 3. Do not share food, drinking cups, or eating utensils.
If you have any questions or concerns, please be sure to contact your child’s health care provider. |

Opportunities to Sponsor the Spring 2025 Production of “Seussical”
We are excited to announce that on March 20th, 21st, and 22nd students in grades 7–12 will be performing one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical! The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant. With over 50 students in the cast and crew, Seussical will performed in our Performing Arts and Athletic Center, which will be transformed into the world of the Who’s and Jungle Creatures.
We are offering sponsorship opportunities for local businesses, organizations, and events that are interested in reaching families with school-aged children throughout the North Shore of Boston and Eastern Massachusetts. The production will feature a live pit orchestra, professional grade costuming, extensive staging, professional lighting and sound engineering. Would you consider supporting this musical production by purchasing ad space in the program book? The Program will be distributed to all audiences during the four performances, reaching an estimated 600+ people. Click here for more information.

Cougars RoundUp!
Girls Varsity Basketball
Wednesday, January 15th: CCA 26, Gann 28
The CCA girls varsity team battled hard but came up just short against Gann Academy, losing 28-26 in a thrilling finish. With just 48 seconds remaining, the game was tied, and it looked like the Lady Cougars might pull off the win. However, Gann managed to score in the final seconds, sealing the victory in a tense finish. Senior Julia Ray delivered a standout performance, leading the team with 12 points while contributing strong defense at both ends of the court. Eighth-grader Lia P. also played a key role, adding 9 points to keep CCA in the game. Despite their determined effort, the Lady Cougars were unable to capitalize on the late tie and came up just shy in a hard-fought contest. It was a tough loss, but the team showed great resilience and teamwork, and they’ll look to build on this close game as the season continues.
Boys Varsity Basketball
Wednesday, January 15th
After Wednesday’s game against Gann, Coach Bradford was reminded of just how fortunate he is to be surrounded by such dedicated players and supportive families. Win or lose, it’s the people that make this journey truly special. He reminded the team that this is the time of year when all their hard work and the experience they’ve gained need to start showing results. While there’s still plenty to learn, Coach fully expects to see that effort begin to translate into success on the court. Coach is confident that the team is ready for the challenge ahead and looks forward to seeing what they can achieve the rest of this season. Let’s go, Cougars!
Friday, January 17th: CCA 56, BTA 64
Despite the scoreboard, this game was a victory for CCA, and Coach wouldn’t hesitate to place it in the win column. While the final score showed a loss, the real success came in the form of immense growth and understanding. The team took a huge step forward in realizing what true success means—something far beyond just points on the board. Missing key players like Mikey Graves and Matt Stuart, CCA still gave everything they had against one of the most talented teams in Class C, keeping it a two-point game in the final minutes. The effort and determination were undeniable, and the team showed exactly the kind of resilience and will to win that Coach has been working so hard to instill in them over the past months. Senior Bennett Plosker, despite playing with a severely injured arm, scored 23 points and played exceptional defense. Junior Jacob Williamson faced off against one of the league’s best players without backing down, even after taking a vicious elbow to the throat. And the effort didn’t stop there. Seniors Theo Ostrowski and Isaac Portugal, juniors Dimitrie Farcas (who scored 13 points), Spencer Liu, and Shepherd Gladden, sophomore Sam Batten, and freshman Jacob Chewning—every player on the floor, and those on the bench, poured everything into this game. This was the night that the team began to truly understand how far they’ve come and how much potential this story holds. As one referee congratulated the team for a hard-fought game, another made sure Coach heard him: “Your kids played so hard. It was so impressive. Just so impressive.” Coach couldn’t agree more.
Boys JV Basketball
Wednesday, January 15th: CCA 32, Gann 54
The Boys JV team faced a challenging matchup on the road against Gann, falling 54-32. Gann came out of the gate with intensity, quickly jumping to a commanding 14-1 lead. Despite their best efforts, the Cougars struggled to find their rhythm early, and Gann extended their lead to 20 points by halftime, with the score standing at 34-14. However, the boys weren’t ready to give up. In the second half, they fought back with renewed energy and determination, cutting the deficit to just 11 points at one point. The comeback was sparked by a combination of solid defense and improved offense, as Covenant played with more intensity and focus. Despite the strong push, Gann was able to regain control, closing out the game with a 54-32 win. It was a valiant effort by CCA, showing grit and resilience even when facing a large deficit. The boys will take these lessons forward as they continue to develop throughout the season.
Friday, January 17th: CCA 31, BTA 18
The JV boys rallied from an early 8-1 deficit to defeat Boston Trinity Academy 31-18 at home. After a slow start, Coach urged the team to be more aggressive on offense, and eighth-grader Zeb B. responded by driving to the hoop and drawing fouls, sparking the comeback. The team went into halftime with a 12-11 lead. In the second half, the defense took over. A full-court man-to-man press and strategic shifts to a 2-3 zone rattled BTA, limiting them to just 7 points in the second half. Freshman Nate Jukanovich led the scoring, while eighth-grader Connor C. dominated on defense and grabbed key rebounds. Freshman Arman Gahunia added key baskets, and junior Zeke Belote and freshmen Kaden Lewis, Colin Root, Braylan Ford, and Elliott Smith all played crucial roles in the press and creating turnovers. It was a total team effort and the best defensive performance of the season. Great win, boys!
Boys Middle School Basketball
Thursday, January 16th: CCA, 32, LCA 16
The CCA middle school boys earned a decisive 32-16 victory over LCA, showcasing significant growth and improvement on both sides of the ball. The team’s defense was especially strong, with well-executed rotations and tight coverage that limited LCA’s offensive opportunities. On the offensive end, the boys moved the ball with precision, finding open teammates and creating strong scoring chances. It was a complete team effort, with everyone contributing to the solid win. The boys’ hard work in practice is clearly paying off, and they’ll look to build on this performance as the season progresses. Great job, team!
Tuesday, January 21st: CCA 34, Landmark 37
The Middle School Boys basketball team lost a close game to Landmark on Tuesday, falling by the score of 37-34. It was a tightly contested game from start to finish, with both teams playing physical defense, hitting timely buckets, and fighting until the very end. The Cougars were led on offense by Judah L. (15 points) and Tyler C. (13 points). On the defensive side of the ball, Judah and Tyler played solid perimeter defense while Trace P. and Maddox M. were strong down low. Cole M. and Hudson B. added a needed spark of energy on offense and defense.
Girls Middle School Basketball
Thursday, January 16th: CCA 15, LCA 17
The Middle School Girls Basketball team lost a close matchup at Lexington Christian Academy (17-15) with the game not decided until the final seconds ticked off the clock. Despite a tough loss, this game was an amazing learning opportunity for our team. LCA is a talented and athletic team and our team relentlessly competed until the very end. Falling behind 8-0 in the first few minutes of the game, CCA didn’t get phased, chipping away to only be trailing (12-10) at halftime and keeping it a one possession game the rest of the way. Julia S. led the team with 5 points, Isabella P. had 4 points, and Olivia C., Lila O. and Luma Q. all scoring 2. It was great to see Eva C. back from illness to play tough defense and grab several key rebounds!

Miles for Miracles: Running the Boston Marathon in Memory of Tyler Simões
CCA parent Mike Quail will be running the 2025 Boston Marathon in April in honor of our beloved Tyler Simões, who passed away in July at the age of 13 after valiantly fighting RAC2 (an autoimmune disease) for many years. Although losing Tyler has been a tragedy, we know that God can use tragedy for goodness.
Can you help bring some light and love to this tragedy? Mike has teamed up with Boston Children’s Hospital’s Miles for Miracles to run the 26.2 miles in Tyler’s memory and to raise funds for the very best medical care, breakthrough research, and vital support services for sick kids and their families. He and Danielle, Tyler’s mom, would love for as many people as possible to donate to Miles for Miracles in Tyler’s memory, even if it’s just a dollar, to help the next child and family at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Please click here to support Mike’s fundraiser on behalf of Tyler’s legacy. |
