This movement encourages people to unplug from all devices and instead engage with the people around them meaningfully. This kind of fast is not only timely for us as Christians in the Lenten season, but it also aligns with our commitment to put the analog over the digital.

If your family chooses to take part, please forward any relevant reflections to Tracy Bennett at tracy.bennett@ccamail.org

Community Helpers Unit in PreK

During our Community Helpers Unit, Mrs. Tammaro’s and Mrs. Herwing’s PreK students learned about so many exciting, helpful jobs.  We were visited by a policeman (Jaymeson’s Daddy ~ Sergeant Meehan), the Peabody Fire Department, our special school nurse, Mrs. Ashley, a mailman (Ian’s Daddy, Mr. Martin) who delivered each student a personal letter and a package for each class filled with surprise goodies, and a mechanic, Mrs. Davey’s husband, who taught us all about his tools and how to use them safely.  We sure learned a lot about these Community HEROES!!! PreK would like to Thank You for all you do!!!

MEET OUR TEAM

Kim Russell, Logic School Faculty, Language Arts

What is your role at Covenant and how long have you worked here? I teach Language Arts to 7th & 8th graders. This is my 13th year at CCA.

What has been your biggest learning experience here so far? As a teacher, I have grown so much since coming to Covenant! I didn’t know what Classical learning was all about. Now I embrace it wholeheartedly. I have seen the fruits of our labors here.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Covenant? I love the family that is our Covenant community. I especially love spending time with my students, past and present, every day.

Can you share a Bible verse or passage that has had a significant impact on your life or career? Zechariah 4:6-7 “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit” says the Lord Almighty. “What are you, Mighty Mountain? Before Zerubbabel, you will become level ground.” This verse has sustained me and encouraged me as I have been journeying through life with my son Jordan, who has severe autism.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Outside of work, I love to spend time with my family and friends. I enjoy cooking and decorating. There’s nothing better than changing a room around!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? I went on a whirlwind trip in college, through Europe, Greece and Israel.  Mrs. Bergstrom was on that trip with me! We roughed it in tents and ate many peanut butter sandwiches. If I could travel anywhere in the world, I’d like to do that trip over again, but at a more leisurely pace, staying at luxurious hotels, and eating in local restaurants.

Describe one way you see God’s hand in Covenant’s mission or work. I see God’s hand at work here at CCA all the time. When a devotional I shared with the students coordinates exactly with something we are reading together in class, I just know God is on the move. Many times I tell my students, “I didn’t plan it that way.” When God opens an opportunity for me to encourage someone, I feel blessed.

What’s your favorite food? I’m a dessert girl! I especially love chocolate!

Who on the team inspires you the most, and why? I am inspired by Rita Detwiler. She is always working so hard behind the scenes, cleaning out the basement, moving books, keeping us efficient. She also has a heart for the families we serve. I appreciate talking with her so much!

What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know? Most people don’t know that I was a page in the Vermont Legislature when I was an 8th grader. Though my grandfather used to tell me I should become the first female president, I think I’ll pass!

What’s your favorite CCA tradition or event? I love the back-to-school BBQ where we welcome students back to school and get to meet our new students. It’s such an exciting time of year!

What’s your favorite book, movie, or hobby? My current favorite hobby is learning how to throw pottery on a wheel. I have been taking classes for a couple of years, fulfilling a long-standing dream of mine. I just reread The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (middle school appropriate) and then read the sequel called All the Broken Places (adult appropriate). Both were amazing books!

How do you find balance between your faith, family, and work commitments? I strive to maintain balance in my life by being fully present where my feet are and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide me.  I am so grateful for the relationship I have with Jesus, the family I get to do life with, and the opportunity to be a part of this great school community.
