Summer Reminders From The CCA Health Office

Medication Pick-Up If your child had medications stored at school that you forgot to pick up on their final day, they will be held for one week only. Please call the main office at 978-535-7100 to schedule medication pick-up for the week of June 10th – June 14th. A parent/guardian signature will be required at pick-up. Any medications left at school after that point will be discarded per school policy.

Physical Exams Updated physical exams are required by the state for students every 3 years, and annually for students who participate in athletics. They are also required annually for students with a life-threatening allergy, or asthma, those with ongoing medical conditions, and for students who require medication administration in school.  If your child has a physical exam over the summer, please remember to upload it to your Magnus account.

Vaccinations Additionally, there are state vaccine requirements for students within a certain grade, for which the school completes a required survey annually. If your child is entering Pre-K, Kindergarten, 7th, or 12th grade in the fall, please be sure to discuss vaccinations with your child’s pediatrician to make sure they meet the requirements. For those who have a medical or religious exemption for immunizations, it needs to be renewed annually and submitted through Magnus.

Magnus Health Beginning August 1st, all families will be required to log into their Magnus accounts to confirm and update student health information for the 2024-2025 school year. This includes providing annual permissions for over-the-counter medications at school and submitting action plans for students with life-threatening allergies or asthma. Please watch for updates and reminders emailed from the CCA health office during the summer months.

If you have any questions, please email me at school.nurse@ccamail.org.  Be safe, stay healthy, and have a wonderful summer!

Coda Trips: Students Making Memories

The USLR Coda trips wrapped up with the last buses arriving back late Tuesday night. By its very nature, a Coda is a different ending to a piece of work (literary, dramatic, musical). While the classroom is a wonderful place to learn, the opportunity to venture out of the predictable spaces where routines have been established can energize learning in some special ways. Coda is an opportunity for students to complete the academic year with something more than the pressure of studying for exams. It is a time for students to have a shared experience of traveling and living together as a class. Some special bonding happens during this time that strengthens class morale and unity. It allows students and teachers to “meet” one another in a new and different way, in a much different setting than every day. Thus, Coda trips serve to round out, conclude, and oftentimes summarize the experiences of the academic year while at the same time providing an opportunity to do something of interest with their peers.

Here are the places each grade traveled this year:

7th Grade: Gettysburg, PA and Ellis Island, NY

8th Grade: Washington D.C.

9th Grade: Schoodic Education Adventure (SEA) Program, Acadia National Park, ME

10th Grade: Quebec City, Canada

11th Grade: La Vida Adirondack Expeditions Base Camp, Upstate NY

12th Grade: Cape Cod, MA
