GENERAL NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Save the Date for CCA’s International Festival!

Friday, January 31st | 6:00 pm | PAAC

We look forward to hosting CCA’s largest celebration of its community’s many cultures and traditions! Join us for an evening of food, fun, and celebration in the PAAC from 6:00–8:00 pm.

The International Festival is an evening where families represent their heritage and culture by sharing food, drinks, art, music, decorations, etc. We will line the PAAC with tables from different countries and have an open house atmosphere where you can walk around and sample various foods, talk with parents and students, and learn about the many cultures that make up our incredible CCA community.

If you want to be part of a table and provide food to share, click here. If you have any questions or ideas, please contact the Global Community Council Student Prefect Davi Silva at davi.silva.2025@ccamail.org

Campus Cuisine School Lunch Program

Mondays: Chick-fil-A | Fridays: Danvers Pizza

CCA offers a lunch program through Campus Cuisine, an outfit that coordinates with local restaurants to deliver meals to schools. Ordering, payment, and other details are handled directly through them. We have partnered with Campus Cuisine to deliver lunches on Mondays (Chik-fil-A) and Fridays (Danvers Pizza). The link to place orders can be found on CCA’s website under the “Parent” section, titled: Campus Cuisine School Lunch Program, or by clicking here

Special thanks to CCA parent Sarah Ross (mom to Spencer, Grade 11) and her team of volunteers, who prepare student name labels the night before, arrive at CCA early to receive and prepare the orders, and then ensure each student gets their lunch. Without their commitment, this program would not be possible. Thank you Sarah, Josie, and Vanda!

CAMPUS SAFETY

Recent world and national events remind us that security is an active and intentional function. Security is also a team sport, and any community member may be involved at any time. Two of the most important aspects of protecting our students are to:

(1) NOTICE people and behavior that seem out of place; and

(2) DO SOMETHING:

  • Have a faculty or staff member call Mr. Ulrich or Mr. Anastasi on their walkie-talkie.
  • Approach the person, introduce yourself, and inquire if they “need help.”
  • Take a picture of a license plate.
  • Call for a bystander to get involved: “That guy looks like he’s up to something. Keep an eye on him while I get someone to check him out.”

The unstated priority of this great school is to return your child to his/her loving home safely every day. CCA staff and faculty have been excellent at living up to these expectations and have demonstrated, on several occasions, that they are active and intentional in their commitment to security.

Questions about Campus Safety can be directed to Josh Ulrich joshua.ulrich@ccamail.org

NURSE’S NOTES

School Health Advisory: Gastrointestinal Illness

This week we have seen a large number of students dismissed from school or absent with gastrointestinal (GI) illness. This type of illness, typically caused by noroviruses, is highly contagious and spreads easily from person to person. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and sometimes low-grade fever, headache, and body aches. Symptoms usually begin 24 to 48 hours after exposure, and can last for a couple days.

Please take the following precautions to help prevent the spread of GI illness:

  • Frequent and meticulous hand hygiene with soap and water. (Note that hand sanitizer does not work well against norovirus.)
  • Strict attention to environmental cleaning with a bleach solution.
  • Washing soiled clothing and linens.

If your student is ill with any of the symptoms listed above, please keep them home from school until it has been at least 24 hours since their last episode of vomiting, diarrhea, or fever.  We will continue judicious efforts to sanitize frequently touched items in the classrooms, and encourage students in proper hand hygiene.

Additional information regarding norovirus may be found at the CDC website.  Please contact your child’s health care provider if you have questions or concerns about your child’s illness.  As always, feel free to contact the school nurse (Christen Ashley, RN) at school.nurse@ccamail.org if you have any further questions.

Christmas Community Fun: A Holiday Game Bash

The USLR Christmas Community was filled with festive fun and holiday cheer, featuring three exciting games that brought out everyone’s competitive spirit!

  1. Messy Backyard: Houses were divided into quadrants, and the challenge was on as participants tossed their “mess” into other houses’ spaces. The more chaotic, the better!

  2. Christmas Movie Poster Trivia: Movie buffs tested their knowledge by guessing classic Christmas films from original posters with titles blocked out—who could identify the most?

  3. Spruce Up a Faculty Member: Each house had the chance to Christmas-ify a faculty member, decking them out in holiday style with lots of creativity and flair!

It was an afternoon full of laughter, friendly competition, and holiday spirit!

Cougars RoundUp!

Girls Varsity Basketball:

Wednesday, January 8th: CCA 43, Montrose 52

The GVBB team played an excellent first half, leading the Montrose Mavericks by the score of 24-23 at the half, but the home team pulled away in the second half leading to the final score of 52-43. Sophomore Novalee Jones led the Lady Cougars with 9 followed by seniors Anne Hammond with 8 and Julia Ray with 7. This was a balanced attack with 8 players putting up points in the contest. The girls take on Landmark on Friday at 4:00 pm in the PAAC.

Boys Varsity Basketball:

Wednesday, January 8th: CCA 44, Brimmer and May 41

The Cougars claimed their first league win of the season, improving to 3-4 (1-2 in the MBIL) thanks to the victory in Peabody. CCA overcame a rocky start in its first game back from break to build a comfortable second half lead before the visitors tightened it at the end. Senior guard Bennett Plosker fought through illness to lead the hosts with 14 points, while sophomore forward Dimitrie Farcas netted 10 points. Senior forwards Theo Ostrowski (8 points, 10 rebounds) and Matt Stuart (5 points, 7 rebounds) played key roles on the interior for Covenant. Covenant Christian next plays Marie Philip for another home game Friday at 5:45 p.m.

Boys JV Basketball:

Wednesday, January 8th: CCA 59, Brimmer and May 41

The Boys JV Basketball team kicked off their first home game of the season with a strong performance, defeating Brimmer 59-39. Led by Freshman Nate Jukanovich’s 15-point effort, the team showed great balance and teamwork across the board. Freshman Collin Root contributed 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, making his presence felt on both ends of the floor. Junior Zeke Belote added 10 points, while eighth-graders Connor C. and Zeb B. each scored 6 points and pulled down 7 rebounds, solidifying the team’s rebounding efforts. Freshmen Arman Gahunia (5 points), Braylan Ford (4 points), and Kaden Lewis (2 points) rounded out the scoring for the Cougars. It was a well-rounded team effort, with everyone contributing to the win. The defense was tough, the offense was efficient, and the team showed great depth across all positions.

COMMUNITY

Miles for Miracles: Running the Boston Marathon in Memory of Tyler Simões

CCA parent Mike Quail will be running the 2025 Boston Marathon in April in honor of our beloved Tyler Simões, who passed away in July at the age of 13 after valiantly fighting RAC2 (an autoimmune disease) for many years. Although losing Tyler has been a tragedy, we know that God can use tragedy for goodness.

Can you help bring some light and love to this tragedy? Mike has teamed up with Boston Children’s Hospital’s Miles for Miracles to run the 26.2 miles in Tyler’s memory and to raise funds for the very best medical care, breakthrough research, and vital support services for sick kids and their families. He and Danielle, Tyler’s mom, would love for as many people as possible to donate to Miles for Miracles in Tyler’s memory, even if it’s just a dollar, to help the next child and family at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Please click here to support Mike’s fundraiser on behalf of Tyler’s legacy.
