Volunteer Opportunity

Do you happen to have basic carpentry skills? Would you be interested in a small project with a huge impact? We would love to connect with a volunteer who could help us build and install a set of coat hooks for our Aftercare Program. CCA will gladly cover the cost of materials if you could provide the skills and labor! We have a similar set of coat hooks in the Logic School that are working well and can serve as a model for this project. Please  reach out to Andrea Bergstrom andrea.bergstrom@ccamail.org if you think you might be the right person for this little job!

USLR Spiritual Emphasis Week:

This week in the Upper School chapel, Mr. Anastasi delivered the keynote address for our Spiritual Emphasis Week from Ephesians 3:14-21 about being “filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” He encouraged us to open ourselves to receiving the fullness of God by praying rightly:

  • First, by asking the Lord to strengthen us in our inner being by his Spirit because when our inner being is strengthened by God’s power, our external circumstances lose their power over us.
  • Second, by offering the Lord complete control over the areas of our lives where we tighten our grip, because freedom is found when Jesus is the Lord of our hearts, not just a guest in our hearts.
  • Third, by fixing our eyes upon Jesus again and again, because when we fill our hearts and minds with the fullness of God in Christ, there is no longer room in our hearts for the empty things of this world.

Cougars Round Up

Boys Varsity Basketball:

January 17th: CCA: 62, Eagle Hill: 64

The Boys Varsity Basketball team lost to Eagle Hill, 64-62, in a game that came right down to the end. Here’s what Coach Bradford had to say:

“It’s never easy to come so far – in so many ways – and fall just short. But in the grand scheme of things, this was a HUGE step forward for us.

Every single player made sure they were a factor in whatever way they could. And, most importantly, they all answered the challenge I put before them: To absolutely always be the team that wants to win more than its opponents. That wasn’t the case last Friday. It was absolutely the case Wednesday.

They hustled. They listened. They executed. They cheered. And all of it put us in a position to win at the end despite being down a couple of valuable players, having a bench of three players, and relying on two eighth-graders and a freshman at crunch-time. EVERYBODY lifted each other up to a place we frankly need to be heading into some really important games.

As for some of the numbers, Bennett Plosker was immense, not only scoring 33 points, but doing it against a team that played a box-and-one against him from the very beginning to the very end of the game. Theo Ostrowski had his best game in the last two years, scoring a career-high 18 points while proving relentless on the boards. But, like I said, every one of the players – including Matt Stuart, who made the trip to cheer on his teammates despite being sidelined with a sprained ankle – made sure some huge steps forward were taken.

Oh, and we did something that I know I  haven’t witnessed in my five seasons as varsity coach at CCA: We went 24-for-35 from the foul line.”

Boys JV Basketball:

January 17th: CCA: 30, Eagle Hill: 39

The Boys JV Basketball team lost a hard fought game to Eagle Hill on Wednesday. They dominated the second half of the game, but in the end came up short for the win with a final score of 39-30. Spencer scored a team high 16 points, Jacob hit two key three-pointers and Zeke scored four points. Amazing defensive performance by the whole team!

Girls JV Basketball:

January 17th: CCA: 37, Cambridge School of Weston: 10

The Girls JV Basketball defeated CSW at home on Wednesday with a final score of 39-12. The girls worked together and played hard, coming out with the victory on their home court. Way to go, Cougars!
