Covenant Commentaries

Friday, April 5th | 8:15 am | CCA Cafeteria

Our next Covenant Commentary, Turning School Inside Out, will be held on Friday, April 5th during the Covenant Parent Connection meeting at 8:15 am. Following on the heels of Andrea Bergstrom and Tracy Bennett’s commentary about technology, anxiety, and the developing mind, USLR Faculty Member and Classical Roots Program Steward Alex Miller will present an unexpected solution to the anxiety epidemic: green spaces and hands-on work here on our campus.

It’s been three years since Classical Roots began and, since then, our community has seen profound benefits from this humble program. In this Covenant Commentary, Alex Miller will make the bold suggestion that these gardens are not an addition to our mission and identity but an essential part of them, since they provide the best possible solutions to the next generation’s most urgent needs.

This session will be recorded for those who cannot attend.

If you have questions about Covenant Commentaries or would like to suggest topics for future Commentaries, please contact Nicole Wise Williams, Chief Advancement Officer, at nicole.williams@ccamail.org

Kindergarten’s Egg-citing Adventure: The Hatching of Eight Adorable Baby Chicks!

Kindergarten students and teachers are thrilled to announce the successful hatching of eight adorable baby chicks! Students learned about the life cycle of a chick and then began the hatching journey by carefully placing the eggs into an incubator, nurturing them, and waiting “patiently” for 21 days until they hatched, beginning on Easter Sunday, then throughout the day on April Fools Day! What an amazing experience to watch and learn about this great miracle!

“Identity Crisis” Movie Screening

Friday, April 26th | 6:00–9:00 pm | CCA Small Gym

Attention all 6th–12th grade girls!

You’re invited to an exclusive FREE movie screening of the award-winning “Identity Crisis.” This fun, faith-based family comedy follows a smart but overly shy college girl named Madison. Madison is a bookworm who chooses to constantly study or work in her college library rather than socialize. However, she encounters all sorts of comical problems when she creates her clone, who is everything she’s not.

Following the viewing, the film’s writer and producer, Andrea Polnaszek, a licensed clinical social worker, will share her journey into filmmaking and emphasize the film’s message on the importance of discerning who God says we are versus the broader culture.

Don’t miss this unique and fun-filled opportunity to connect with peers, watch a fun film, and engage in a discussion with a talented filmmaker!

ALUMNI

Adam Farris (Class of ‘20) had a paper published in Noetica, William & Mary’s Journal of Global Premodern Studies! This journal is published each May and takes submissions from students at colleges and universities across the globe and is reserved only for undergraduates. Adam says that the whole paper was formatted according to the classical style that he learned in Mr. Miller’s “Classical Literature” class back in 2016. He says that he refers more often to the resources he received at CCA for collegiate writing than the ones he is currently provided.

The title of the paper is “Hope from the Ashes: An Economic and Political Analysis of how the Black Death in Britain Benefitted Serfs and the Working Class,” and combines economic theory with history to determine if many of the problems in Britain’s labor force today, such as the constant union strikes and breakdown of many industries, can be straight-lined back to worker sentiments and early labor laws from the post-Black Death era.

Adam will be graduating from the College of William and Mary this year with a B.A. in Economics and a Finance minor.

Congratulations, Adam!
