CCA’s Countdown to ISS Contact

Less than 3 Weeks Until Contact!

This week Davi & Isabella interviewed some CCA Students and Faculty to find out how much they know about the ISS. Watch the latest episode here.

Next up we’ll be focussing on how astronauts communicate in space with a special feature called “Making Waves with William” where our Senior Lab Assistant, William Wei, explains what electromagnetic waves are and how they work!

If you want more information about the ISS contact or the CCA Radio Club, please contact USLR STEM Coordinator Jennifer O’Riorden at jennifer.oriorden@ccamail.org. If you want to support this exciting initiative financially, please contact Nicole Wise Williams, Chief Advancement Officer, at nicole.williams@ccamail.org.

Donation Drive for Local Migrant Families

It is always a privilege when our CCA community is able to support the efforts of local community service and support initiatives. Former CCA Librarian and Aftercare Program Director, Joanna Bergeron, now serving as an administrator for North Shore Baptist Church of Peabody, has reached out to invite our participation in a community initiative led by several local churches, supporting close to 90 migrant families relocated to Peabody this summer.

As winter approaches, the needs are great and we want to indeed be the hands and feet of Jesus. For the next two weeks we will be running a simple drop-off collection to support this collaborative effort. Most needed items include gently worn children’s and maternity clothing, winter clothing, and baby gear. You can help by sharing your family’s outgrown or unused items (clean, gently used & in good repair).

Please see the attached flyer for more information. Smaller donations may be dropped off in the carline.

God’s Not Done Yet

CCA’s God’s Not Done Yet strategic growth initiative is seeking to raise $25M over a five year span for important updates in and around our school, as well as fully funding our Charis Endowment Fund. This initiative will:

  • Create spaces and opportunities for students to learn and engage.
  • Elevate CCA’s classical approach to education in the classroom and beyond with the resources and tools we can offer through our Academic Support Center, enhanced Fine Arts program, and science labs.
  • Inspire our students to think critically, serve selflessly and lead boldly, and become who God designed them to be.

If you want to support this initiative financially, please contact Nicole Wise Williams, Chief Development Officer, at nicole.williams@ccamail.org.

REMINDER FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE

School Health Reminder: When Should I Keep My Student Home?
To promote the health and well-being of our Covenant community, please carefully review the following CCA school health policies about when you should keep your student home:

  1. In the event of diagnosed infectious disease, (such as COVID-19, flu, strep throat, etc.) parents must notify the school nurse.  The student should remain home for the appropriate amount of time according to their doctor’s recommendations.  For COVID-19, follow current isolation and return-to-school guidelines according to the MA Department of Public Health.
  2. Keep the student home if they have a fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. (Please do NOT medicate your child for fever in the morning, and then send them to school.) Students may return to school after remaining fever-free for at least 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication.
  3. Do not send your student to school if they have any of the following symptoms:
    • Vomiting or diarrhea over the past 24 hours
    • Copious nasal drainage
    • Excessive/uncontrollable coughing
    • Red or pink eyes with crusty and/or yellow/green drainage

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. As always, don’t hesitate to contact the CCA school nurse at 978-535-7100 or school.nurse@ccamail.org if you have any questions.

USLR Club Fair

On Thursday, the cafeteria courtyard was hopping with excitement as USLR students enjoyed the Club Fair and learned about all the opportunities for involvement this year. Student representatives are largely responsible for the planning and organizing of Clubs at CCA. Students love to spend time with each other outside of the academic school day, and they have many opportunities to do so over the school year. During the Extra Help period after school each afternoon, during lunch and sometimes even on weekends, students have started, and participated in, a variety of clubs including: Art Club, Game Club, Community Service Club, Math Club, Ski & Snowboard Club, Boys Volleyball Club, Women in STEM Club, Surf Club, Robotics Club, Ping Pong Club, CCA Athletics Newsletter Club, Gospel Club, HAM Radio Club, Book Club, Golf Club and Chess Club.

Stage crew will be contacted soon and will report to rehearsals starting on October 16th.

Logic School Play

The Fine Arts Department is excited to announce that this year’s Logic School play will be 30 Reasons Not To Be In A Play. “Stage kisses, pinkeye, inciting World War III — these are only a few of the many things that can go wrong during the production of a play. [It’s] a full evening of the horrors and hardships that befall those who feel the call of the stage. In a series of hilarious examples, this play proves that drama can be a very dangerous thing and it must be avoided at all costs.” Audition information will be posted outside of Mr. Hoover’s classroom next week with the performances to be held December 7th, 8th, and 9th.

Cougar Round Up!

Boys Varsity Soccer started off Monday’s game a bit slow, with Gann Academy scoring 2 goals in the 1st half. The Cougars entered the second half with much more energy, however it was not enough to pull through. The boys lost with a final score of 3-0, against Gann.

The Cougars came into Friday’s game ready to play finishing with a dominant 8-0 triumph over BCA. Freshman Ethan Velasquez led the way with 3 goals, followed by Bennet Plosker, Solomon Ngethe, Theo Ostrowski, Lukas Badaro, and Tristan Viera who each scored goals for the Cougars. Way to go, boys!

Girls Varsity Soccer lost their match to Brimmer & May on Friday with a final score of 1-0. They look forward to coming back strong as they take on Newman at home next Wednesday.

Girls Varsity Volleyball traveled to Waltham on Friday afternoon and broke a three-game losing streak, winning in straight sets over CHCH on Friday afternoon: 25-14, 25-17, 25-22. Julia Ray led the attack with 6 kills and 6 service aces. Fernanda Silva-Fernandes and Leanna Rothier each contributed multiple kills and multiple aces as well. On defense, the girls were relentless and scrappy, and nearly every player made at least one dig. It was their best game as a team so far this season.

Varsity Cross Country had their first race of the season at the Cambridge School of Weston on Wednesday. The top 3 Cougar finishers were Nora Robinson (11th grade), Lily Stuart (9th grade), and Ally Hall (11th grade)!

Boys JV Soccer had a great win for the Cougars against Brimmer & May on Wednesday! Nathan Cequera scored two goals and Nico Mason scored his first goal of the season on a beautiful volley.  Solid work from the defense keeping the ball on the attacking half most of the game!

The JV Boys beat Pingree 4-1 at home on Friday. Strong hustle kept the ball in Cougar control most of the game with a defensive wall led by Christian Moll & Jacob Williamson.  Nathan Cerquiera earned a hat trick with three goals, keeping offensive pressure on the other side the whole game.  Nicolas DeJesus earned a goal outrunning the Pingree defense and scoring on a breakaway in the final minutes.  Keeper Jacob Chewning had a few impressive saves towards the end of the game to seal it.  The team is developing stronger teamwork and communication skills.  Go Cougars!

Girls JV Volleyball defeated CHCH on Friday afternoon in straight sets, 25-20 and 25-23. The girls were led by the strong play of Camille Fisher and Allie Freedman. Copley Shea, Lydia Choi, and Allie Sanders were key contributors from behind the service line, and Julia Baia made several nice plays at the net.

Boys Middle School Soccer played hard but lost their game on Wednesday against Shore Country Day School with a final score of 4-2. Judah Lawrenz and Hudson Baker both scored.

Girls Middle School Soccer played an absolutely incredible game on Wednesday against Shore Country Day School. Despite the final score of 0-1, the girls fought hard to get to the goal. Our defensive line put in tremendous effort as well. Every practice and game exemplifies the work these girls are putting in on and off the field. Way to go girls!

Middle School Cross Country kicked off the season with a 2 mile race against Landmark School and Tower School! Drew Migonis had a strong lead and finished in first place with a time of 13:02. Braylan Ford was the next Cougar to cross the line in 5th place with a time of 15:30, followed by Rachel Blosser in 8th place with a time of 16:25. Abby Borgerson rounded out the team in 19th place with a time of 22:16.
