GENERAL NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Veterans Day – Honoring All Who Served

We will hold our annual Veterans Day All-School Assembly on Wednesday, November 8th, at 2:00pm in the PAAC. We want to invite all of our community Veterans to attend this special event so we can thank and honor each of you.

An Evening of Gratitude

Please mark your calendars and plan to join us as we host Covenant’s Evening of Gratitude for you, our Covenant family, on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Olio (Peabody). Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the Lisa Love Experience.

Our calendar originally stated this celebration of our faith-filled community would take place on November 4; however, there were limited venues that met our standards and specifications for the kind of celebration we wanted to offer you.

Planning is underway, so stay tuned for more details in the new year.

Questions regarding the Evening of Gratitude and silent and live auction and corporate sponsorship opportunities can be directed to Nicole Wise Williams, Chief Advancement Officer, at nicole.williams@ccamail.org.

Covenant Commentaries

Our next Covenant Commentary, The Healed Heart of Christmas, will be held on Friday, November 17th during the Covenant Parent Connection meeting at 8:15am, and will feature CCA Parent and Author Esther Baird. Christmas is supposed to be joyful, it’s supposed to be a celebration. So why do we feel like we are slipping ever faster towards the edge of a cliff when the calendar flips to December? Is it just the longer to-do list? Is it a scheduling problem? Or does Christmas bring to the surface something that actually hasn’t been right all year long? Something that is broken. Because something has gone wrong, and much as we’d like to blame society, schools, churches, families or each other, what’s really broken is our hearts. Copies of Esther’s newly released Christmas devotional will be available for purchase.

For questions about Covenant Commentaries or to suggest topics for future Commentaries, please contact Nicole Williams, Chief Advancement Officer, at nicole.williams@ccamail.org

Save the date for our next Commentary!

Month of Giving

Giving Tuesday is Tuesday, November 28. It is a global generosity movement that unleashes the power of radical generosity worldwide and represents the belief that every act of generosity is the primary means – and end. The #GivingTuesday movement strives to build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we create together – encouraging further generosity, which in and of itself is uplifting, generative, equalizing, and connecting!

CCA is preparing for a season of expressing gratitude and sowing generosity, starting with a month of varied stewardship opportunities leading to Giving Tuesday and continuing through to the end of the year. Stay tuned for details this week and throughout the month – and get ready for #GivingTuesday!

Operation Christmas Child

We are once again providing you an opportunity to participate in the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child initiative. This Christmas, children living in poverty all over the world may receive the first present they have ever been given. A shoebox full of small necessities and gifts is a simple way to share the love of Christ with those in need. We do encourage you to use sturdy plastic shoeboxes whenever possible, however, this year we will provide a cardboard box/per GS Family at your request (available in carlines and lobbies at arrival and dismissal). Durable plastic shoeboxes become a valuable part of the gift to those in need. Additional cardboard boxes will be available upon request as supplies last. Click here for more info.

Raise Right SCRIP Gift Card Fundraiser

The Parent Connection is looking for 1 parent volunteer to assume responsibility for the Raise Right SCRIP Gift Card fundraising program. It’s easy—and it works. By using gift cards to pay for everyday (and not-so-everyday) expenses, each participant in our program can earn cash rewards for CCA! There’s a reason it’s been a top fundraiser for schools, churches, bands, sports teams, and many others for more than 25 years. Our volunteer coordinator simply oversees the orders, and prepares gift cards for delivery. This is an “at home” way to serve our community. Please contact Andrea Bergstrom: andrea.bergstrom@ccamail.org if you think this might be a good-fit opportunity to serve!

UPPER SCHOOL OF LOGIC & RHETORIC

Pumpkin Drop

Physics students have been learning how to analyze objects in motion. Ms. Bergey’s class has been calculating velocities, displacement, acceleration, and the time of objects in motion. For lab this week, students had the fun opportunity to drop pumpkins off of the roof of the PAAC to calculate the height of the building based on the time that it took their pumpkin to drop! Students also got to calculate the force that gravity was exerting on their pumpkins.

Cougar Round Up!

Boys Varsity Soccer:

10/31: MBIL Quarterfinals

The CCA Cougars had an amazing 4-1 Victory over Waring in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. The boys entered the first half of the game with unmatched energy, with Ethan Velasquez-Perdomo scoring in the first 10 minutes. However, their energy dropped a bit, allowing Waring to score. The first half ended with a score of 1-1. The CCA Cougars entered the second half roaring. This incredible energy allowed them to take many shots against Waring. Simeon Yen scored a beautiful goal. The Cougars went on to score 2 more goals – both by Ethan Velasquez-Perdomo, resulting in a hat-trick! Some honorable mentions are JacobLibby and Isaac Portugal. Both boys brought an insane amount of energy into the game, playing with both skill and intensity. This victory against Waring brought the Covenant Boys Soccer into the Semi-finals where they’ll go up against GANN on Thursday.

11/2: MBIL Semifinals

The Covenant Cougars fought hard, played well, and gave it their all, in their semi-finals game against Gann Academy. During the first half of the game, both teams played extremely well. They were equally matched, resulting in a score of 0-0 going into half time. Bennett Plosker scored a goal in the second half by heading the ball into the net, after receiving a corner kick from Isaac Portugal. However, Gann quickly responded, scoring a goal less than 2 minutes later. This same pace was kept up for the rest of the second half. The teams ended the game in a 1-1 tie, resulting in the game continuing into overtime. During the first five minutes of overtime, neither team scored, so they entered double overtime. With one minute left in the second half of overtime, Gann scored, ending the game with a final score of 2-1. The Covenant Cougars fought hard today, played to the best of their ability, and put up quite a fight against Gann. The boys had an outstanding season, and should be proud of all of their accomplishments. Congratulations on a remarkable season!

Girls Varsity Soccer:

10/31: IGC Quarterfinals

The CCA girls had a HUGE 6-1 win against Brimmer and May in the quarterfinals. Liza Minogue started the Cougars out with 2 goals, one off a corner from Anne Hammond. Novalee Jones added another goal in the first half. In the second half, Carys Walters scored 2 goals and Greta Baird added one. The girls dominated and played together moving the ball all over the field, controlling their passes and shots in one of their best performances of the season. Marie M., Evie Hammond, Ellie Landymore, and Sophia Jacobson locked down on defense, helping Isabella DeCotis in goal.

11/2: IGC Semifinals

The CCA girls lost to Montrose (4-0) in the semifinals of the playoffs. They put up a good fight to a really tough team. We’re so proud of the growth in this team and the tenacity they have shown. Congratulations, girls, on an amazing soccer season!

Girls Varsity Volleyball:

10/30: IGC Quarterfinals

The varsity girls traveled to the Cambridge School of Weston for a quarterfinal playoff game in the IGC playoffs on Monday, and they lost a really close battle in 4 tightly-contested sets. It was a true #4 vs. #5 matchup, as the match easily could have turned in either team’s favor… and unfortunately for the Cougars, a few key moments did not go their way. Magdalen Miller was a force at the net, with 6 kills and 3 solo blocks. Julia Ray added 6 kills, and Leanna Rothier and Fernanda Silva-Fernandes paced the team from behind the service line with power and consistency. The girls now await the results of the remaining games in NEPSAC Class D over the next 10 days – they are hopeful that they may receive an invitation to the NEPSAC regional tournament in mid-November because of their strong play this season.

Varsity Cross Country:

11/1: MBIL Championship Race

The Varsity Girls Cross Country Team competed in the MBIL Championship Race, a 5k (3.1 miles) hosted by CSW. The girls ran hard and ended the season on a high note! Junior Ally Hall and freshman Lily Stuart both PR’d in the 5k! Senior Victoria Gladden ran over 50 seconds faster than last year, and junior Nora Robinson was within seconds of tying last year’s performance. As a team, CCA placed 7th. Congratulations on a great season, Cougars!!
Official Results: Nora Robinson: 27:13 (19th); Lily Stuart: 28:32 (28th); Ally Hall: 29:38 (43rd); Elle Blosser: 30:33 (49th); Victoria Gladden: 32:26 (54th)

Middle School Cross Country:

11/4: USATF Massachusetts State Cross Country Championships

Three of our middle schoolers competed in the USATF Massachusetts State Cross Country Championships. Over 2,100 middle schoolers from all over the state raced the 1.86 mile course throughout the day, making for a very competitive field. Our squad stepped up the challenge admirably, and we had some of our best performances of the season! Drew M dropped an impressive 82 seconds compared to his time from last year. Braylan F ran only slightly slower than he did for his 1 mile time trial last week! Abby B showed courage and determination in getting out there after recently being ill. Super proud of how these runners ended their season!
Official Results: Drew M: 13:07; Braylan F: 14:37; Abby B: 23:25

ROWING AT GORDON:

CCA students Lila Kenis, Ryan Jones and Tatum Christensen competed in the final rowing event of the season at Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, NY on November 29th, with Gordon Junior Rowers. The challenging 2.3 mile course on the Fish River was a true test of endurance as the temperatures plummeted to near freezing accompanied by rain and sleet most of the day. Despite the weather, they all finished well and can celebrate a great season with their team! Congratulations Lila, Ryan and Tatum!
