CCA’s Countdown to ISS Contact4 Weeks Until Contact!
A huge thank you to our entire student body for the wonderful questions they submitted to ask the astronauts on the International Space Station during our contact. Because the space station is traveling so quickly over our area and we only have about 10 minutes to make a contact, we had to narrow the questions down to only 20 and can only have 10 speakers. Congratulations to the following students for being chosen to ask the astronauts questions:
Check out the first episode in our series of following Davi and Isabella as they learn more about the ISS, Ham Radio and space communications leading up to our contact!
If you want more information about the ISS contact or the CCA Radio Club, please contact USLR Science Department Chair Jennifer O’Riorden at jennifer.oriorden@ccamail.org. If you want to support this exciting initiative financially, please contact Nicole Wise Williams, Chief Advancement Officer, at nicole.williams@ccamail.org. |
Donation Drive for Local Migrant FamiliesIt is always a privilege when our CCA community can support the efforts of local community service and support initiatives. Former CCA Librarian and the founder of our Aftercare Program, Joanna Bergeron, who now serves as an administrator for North Shore Baptist Church of Peabody, has invited us to participate in a community initiative led by several local churches, supporting close to 90 Haitian migrant families relocated to Peabody this summer. |

RS Council Fair
At CCA we desire students to take responsibility for the tone and culture of their school by exercising their leadership gifts. To that end CCA looks to Seniors for Prefect Leadership and underclassmen to serve on Prefect Councils. Students take charge of chapel worship, peer tutoring, student activities, lunchroom procedure and cleanup, international community goals, our Classical Roots program, as well as presenting the school to visiting students and parents.
At CCA we believe in the biblical model of servant-leadership that Jesus demonstrated best exemplifies our own leadership priorities. As Paul says in Philippians, one should “look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Phil 2:4).
On Thursday, RS students enjoyed the Council Fair and learned about opportunities for involvement this year. Each of our student Prefects had an informational sheet about their point of emphasis and invited students to sign up. The Rhetoric School councils are a great way for students to serve their community.

Cougar Round Up!
Boys Varsity Soccer: The Covenant boys defeated CHCH by a decisive victory of 2-0. The game started off a bit slow, with neither team scoring in the first half. When the second half rolled around, the boys entered the game ready to fight, with the first goal scored by Dimitri Farcas, assisted by Jacob Libby. The boys scored their second goal towards the end of the 2nd half by Bennett Plosker with an assist from Wes Libby. Despite the victory, the team intends to come back even stronger in their next game against Gann.
Girls Varsity Soccer: The girls played an amazing game against Chapel Hill and came out with a 6-0 victory! In the first half they went up 2-0 with Greta Baird (first goal as a CCA Cougar) and Novalee Jones scoring goals. The second half was action-packed as well with goals scored by Novalee, Jocelyn Shimansky (first high school goal), and Haley Nelson! Adding to the victory was a shutout by goalie Isabella DeCotis. All the girls played their hearts out!
Boys JV Soccer: What a great game for the JV Boys Squad beating Landmark 4-0 on our home fields. Solid backline play from Christian Moll and Colin Moll anchored the defense. Jacob Williamson provided aggressive play in the middle of the field and monster throw-ins. On the offensive end of the ball, Caleb Hoeman had several great crosses from the wing position. Nathan Cerquiera led all scorers with two goals and an assist, while peppering the goal with shots. Nick DeJesus scored from the top of the box and had an assist, and Alexander Sands scored a goal and earned an assist while terrorizing Landmark defenders. Welcome to Jacob Chewning who debuted as our much-needed goalie and earned his first shutout!
Girls JV Volleyball: The JV team played well in a tight three-set loss Thursday night to Brimmer and May. The girls were led by strong serving from Camille Fisher and Allie Freedman, and by the passing and hustle of Copley Shea and Lydia Choi.
Boys Middle School Soccer had their season opener on Thursday against Pike. Despite a challenging 7-0 loss and a noticeable height disadvantage compared to the opposing team, our middle schoolers played with determination and enthusiasm. We could not be more proud of their outcome. Greyson Brackman (Goalie) demonstrated exceptional shot-stopping skills, even enduring a minor facial injury. Jack Trumbull and Elliot Smith were rock-solid on defense, stopping countless attacks by Pike. Hudson Baker and Tyler Curtis (Midfield) exhibited strategic acumen and developed notable leadership skills. Our three newest additions, Nate, Cole, and Zebulun “Zeb,” seamlessly integrated into the team and met our expectations. Despite facing a significantly larger and more skilled opponent, both Coach Frank and Coach Isabella were thoroughly impressed with the boys’ performance.
Girls Middle School Soccer played with excellent effort from the opening prayer to the final whistle, despite losing 4-0 to Pike. Our girls played with tremendous heart and determination. This team plays well together, and this season is sure to be great one. Way to go girls!
