Why Covenant?

“We discovered Covenant through friends that have attended. Our initial impression when we visited was the warm environment of the community, well-spoken students, as well as a friendly and knowledgeable faculty. Our decision to apply was based primarily on it being a Christian school with a classical education approach. We also appreciated the academic rigor and commitment to educating the whole student. Once Collin was admitted to 9th grade, we decided to enroll him at CCA because we were impressed by the warm and welcoming community we encountered and also the genuine commitment to the school’s mission to educate not only the minds and bodies of our children but more importantly their hearts and souls. Even though our child has only been in school a few weeks, our whole family already feels connected and welcomed by the CCA community.” – the Root family

Welcome to Covenant, Root family! We’re glad you’re here.

Campus Cuisine School Lunch Program

Mondays: Chick-fil-A | Fridays: Danvers Pizza

CCA offers a lunch program through Campus Cuisine, an outfit that coordinates with local restaurants to deliver meals to schools. Ordering, payment, and other details are handled directly through them. We have partnered with Campus Cuisine to deliver lunches on Mondays (Chik-fil-A) and Fridays (Danvers Pizza). The link to place orders can be found on CCA’s website under the “Parent” section, titled: Campus Cuisine School Lunch Program, or by clicking here

Special thanks to CCA parent Sarah Ross (mom to Spencer, Grade 11) and her team of volunteers, who prepare student name labels the night before, arrive at CCA early to receive and prepare the orders, and then ensure each student gets their lunch. Without their commitment, this program would not be possible. Thank you Sarah, Josie, and Vanda!

Homecoming is a wonderful opportunity for Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric School families to come together for a memorable and fun afternoon, and it would not be possible without our parent volunteers’ generous help and support. Recognizing that parents are at different stages in their ability to volunteer, we have a place for all commitment levels, and WE NEED YOU! Volunteering opportunities include donating your time during Homecoming or donating a snack item for our Upper School or the concession booths.

Hurricane Damage in Asheville, NC: How You Can Help

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, many areas of our country have experienced devastating damage, affecting homes and businesses, and wiping out entire cities and towns. One place that was significantly affected is Asheville, NC, where USLR Faculty and Classical Roots Steward Alex Miller grew up and where many of his family members still reside. He writes about it in this week’s Classical Roots Substack which you can read here. Thankfully, all of his family members are safe with their houses still intact. But that’s not the case for so many others. It will likely be weeks before any surviving homes will have access to running water or utilities.

Many people have reached out wondering how they can help. Alex has shared this link with resources of how to help the Asheville community. If you are able to, please feel free to donate to any of the listed organizations. They will need our help and our prayers for the weeks and months to come. It’s a challenging time for many, but together we can make a difference.

NURSE’S NOTES

Reminder: Nut-Free Classrooms

This is a friendly reminder that ALL classrooms must remain a peanut and tree nut-free environment per CCA policy. This includes snacks consumed in the classroom by students in Pre-K through Gr. 12, as well as lunches consumed by Pre-K and Kindergarten students as they do not use the cafeteria. Students may still consume products with nuts at lunchtime in the cafeteria. A nut-free table is available for students with peanut and tree nut allergies if desired.

Please be mindful of this policy when packing your student’s snacks or lunch for school. As always, feel free to contact Christen Ashley, RN at school.nurse@ccamail.org if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your consideration as we strive to keep all our students healthy and safe at school.

GRAMMAR SCHOOL

Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day: WE NEED YOUR HELP!

PLAN TO DONATE OR SERVE ON GRANDPARENTS’ AND SPECIAL FRIENDS’ DAY!

Friday, October 11th | 8:15 am | Cafeteria & PAAC

In just one week we will enjoy one of our favorite events here at CCA. Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day is one of the most well-attended events we hold each year and such a wonderful opportunity for our students to connect with some very special people in their lives. We will be holding the event from 8:15–11:30 am on Friday, October 11th. Due to capacity limits, attendance at this event is intended for our special guests and students only and we request that parents support us as volunteers or by contributing refreshments.

This event is sponsored by CCA and YOU, the parents! Each year, we are blessed by the outpouring of support through donations and volunteerism, which are the keys to this successful and enjoyable event! We are counting on you to help us pull off this great morning!

Please click here to see how you can donate your time or refreshments (please send them plated and ready to serve). Many hands make for light work and lots of fun!

Apple Adventures: A Day at Brooksby Farm

Mrs. McEachern’s and Mrs. Osborne’s kindergarten classes enjoyed an unforgettable field trip to Brooksby Farm in Peabody! The day began with a delightful hayride that took the little ones through the orchards, where they eagerly picked apples straight from the trees. Students were then treated to freshly made apple cider and warm apple cider donuts.

3rd Graders Explore History at Spencer-Pierce-Little Farm!

Our third graders embarked on an exciting field trip to Spencer-Pierce-Little Farm in Newbury, where they had the chance to adventure, learn, and step into the shoes of archeologists for the day! Students participated in engaging, hands-on activities that expanded their understanding of archeology and local history. A big thank you to the staff at Spencer-Pierce-Little Farm and to our parent volunteers for making this adventure possible! Check out the smiles and excitement from this memorable day!

Fourth Graders Showcase Creativity with Pumpkin Characters!

Our fourth graders demonstrated their understanding of their summer reading in a fun and imaginative way—by crafting the main characters out of pumpkins! Using a variety of craft materials and pumpkins of all sizes, students brought their book characters to life.

They had the choice of four fantastic books:

  • Harriet the Spy
  • Shiloh
  • The Cricket in Times Square
  • The Phantom Tollbooth

The fourth-grade hallway is now filled with these delightful creations, each reflecting the unique personality and traits of the characters from the stories. We invite you to check out these wonderful displays and celebrate the creativity and hard work of our students. It’s a fantastic way to see how literature inspires art!

Cougars RoundUp!

Thursday 9/26:

Girls Middle School Soccer: CCA 5 vs GUS 0

The Girls Middle School Soccer team delivered an outstanding performance against Glenn Urquhart School, showcasing their skills and teamwork to secure a commanding 5-0 victory. From the very start, they dominated the game, never allowing GUS to threaten their lead. After numerous scoring opportunities in the first half, Bella D (‘29) opened the scoring in the 5th minute with a perfectly timed goal, assisted by Julia S (‘30). Just moments later, Kennlee S (‘30) found the back of the net following a beautiful pass from Natalie P (‘29). Kelly S (‘29) continued the momentum with back-to-back goals, first capitalizing on an assist from Bella D, and then executing an impressive individual play to score again. In the final moments of the game, Natalie P capped off the victory with a stunning goal, skillfully dribbling past two defenders before taking a shot that deflected off the goalie and into the net.

Boys Middle School Soccer: CCA 5 vs. GUS 1

The Middle School Boys Soccer team delivered a thrilling performance against Glenn Urquhart School, securing a decisive 5-1 win. After a fiercely competitive first half, the Cougars held a slim 2-1 lead, but they came out strong in the second half, scoring three additional goals to seal the victory. Cole M (‘29) shone brightly with a hat trick, netting three goals, while Judah L (‘29) added two more to the tally. Key assists came from Jayden K (‘30), Jacob T (‘30), Tyler C (‘29), and Hudson B (‘29), who contributed to the team’s offensive success. Defensively, Maddox M (‘30) was exceptional in goal, making crucial saves, including a penalty kick, and delivering a series of outstanding stops to keep GUS at bay. Go Cougars!

Boys Varsity Soccer: CCA 5 vs Brimmer & May 0

In a spectacular display of skill and determination, the CCA Boys Varsity Soccer team triumphed over Brimmer with a decisive 5-0 win at home, despite the rainy conditions. Leading the charge was center back captain Jacob Libby (‘25), who had an extraordinary night, scoring all five goals and showcasing his remarkable talent. With 14 goals in just seven games this season, Jacob is truly having a standout senior year. The team played exceptionally well, generating numerous shots on goal while effectively limiting Brimmer to only a few attempts. CCA’s strong performance highlights their commitment and teamwork, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting season ahead. Go CCA!

Friday, 9/27:

Girls Varsity Soccer: CCA 5 vs Waring 0

The Girls Varsity Soccer team traveled to Beverly on Friday afternoon to take on IGC foe Waring School. After an initial slow start, the Cougars scored off of a corner kick in the 15th minute when Anna Jukanovich (’25) played a dangerous ball just above the 6 yard box where captain Ellie Landymore (’25) got just enough of a touch on the ball to direct it over the Waring keeper to give CCA the 1-0 lead. CCA doubled their advantage in the 30th minute as Nova Jones (’27) generated just enough space to create a shooting chance and placed the ball just inside the near post. After halftime, CCA played with more control and confidence. Left back Elsa Williams (’25) played a ball forward that striker Carys Walters (’25) ran onto, stormed past the Waring back line and fired a laser past the keeper to extend CCA’s lead. In the 61st minute, Marina Santos (’28) scored her first goal of the season on a brilliant individual effort and shot that beat the keeper from about 23 yards out. CCA would add another when Evie Hammond (’25) scored a penalty kick in the 77th minute. Goal keeper and captain Isabella DeCotis (’25) earned her 3rd clean sheet of the season as CCA prevailed 5-0.

Girls Varsity Volleyball: CCA 3 vs Montrose 0  (25-15, 25-17, 25-14)

The Girls Varsity Volleyball team hosted Montrose on Friday night, and they won a resounding victory in straight sets: 25-15, 25-17, 25-14. In each set, the team from Montrose started strong but eventually succumbed to the service pressure and attacking power of the Cougars. Senior captain Riley Baird (’25) led the way by providing 18 assists and serving 13 aces. In the third set, when the Cougars were losing 13-14, Riley demonstrated the composure of a team captain when she served 12 consecutive times to win the set and the match. Sophomore outside hitter Leanna Rothier (’27) led the attack for the Cougars with 8 kills, and she added 7 service aces of her own. Julia Ray (‘25) had 6 kills, and she also had several digs on defense. But perhaps THE most exciting development during the match was the Cougars’ intensity and execution on defense. The Cougars’ blocking came alive against Montrose, with Madeleine Trumbull (’25), Magdalen Miller (’25), and Shirley Whitmore (’25) all making huge defensive stops. This was a good win against a good team – way to go, girls!

Monday, 9/30:

Boys JV Soccer: CCA 2 vs Bradford Christian Academy 1

In an exciting matchup, the CCA Boys JV Soccer team triumphed over BCA with a narrow 2-1 victory, despite both teams adjusting to a 9v9 format on a full-sized field due to player shortages. The game was a test of strategy and endurance as both teams battled fiercely, but the decisive moments came late in the second half. Nathan Cerqueira (‘27) was the standout player, scoring both of CCA’s goals and securing the win against a strong BCA squad. The team’s smart play and resilience shone through, leading to a hard-fought victory. Great job, Cougars!

Tuesday, 10/1:

Girls Middle School Soccer: CCA 4 vs Pingree 2

In an exciting matchup verse Pingree, the Girls Middle School Soccer team faced off against a larger, older opponent and showed incredible resilience despite an early setback. After conceding an early goal, the girls remained tenacious, demonstrating strong defensive skills and effective ball movement on offense. They created several scoring chances but initially struggled to find the back of the net. The breakthrough came at the 25th minute when Addie J (‘30) scored off a corner kick delivered by Bella D (‘29), leveling the score. In the second half, CCA again faced an early goal against them but continued to fight back. Natalie P (‘29) found the net in the 13th minute, assisted by Kelly S (‘29), bringing hope back to the team. CCA’s momentum continued as they scored twice more in quick succession. Bella D netted a goal at the 24th minute with help from Kennlee S (‘30), and just four minutes later, Kennlee S scored off a cross from Natalie P. The final score reflected CCA’s determination and teamwork, ending the match with a 4-2 victory. Great job, team!

Girls Varsity Volleyball: AP 3 vs CCA 1 (24-26, 25-12, 25-19, 25-20)

The Girls Varsity Volleyball team traveled to our neighbors, Austin Prep, for a NEPSAC volleyball game on Tuesday evening. Our girls were up to the challenge of playing against a tough team from a bigger school, and they played their hearts out… only to come up a bit short on the scoreline, losing 3 sets to 1: 24-26, 25-12, 25-19, 25-20. Riley Baird (’25) and Leanna Rothier (’27) led the Cougars’ attack: Riley distributed 20 total assists, and Leanna had 15 kills. The Cougars’ defense was solid during much of the match, with eight different players recording digs – led by Leanna and Julia Ray (’25) with 6 each – and four different players recording at least one block – led by Magdalen Miller (’25) who made 5 solo blocks during the match. While they didn’t come away with the W, this was a great team effort and one of the Cougars’ best games of the season.

Wednesday, 10/2:

Middle School Cross Country

The Middle School Cross Country team hosted their first home Cross Country meet against North Shore Christian and Landmark schools. Drew M led the 1.5 mile race and finished first (8:05). William N finished in 7th place (9:50) followed by Yazmin S in 8th place (10:27).  Amelia M came back from her injury to finish in 10th place (11:05) and Izzy M was 17th place (15:00). Great job by all the runners! Special thanks to the Varsity Cross Country team for serving as course marshals.

MEET OUR TEAM

Join us in welcoming Noah Burgdorf to the Upper School team!

We are excited to have Noah Burgdorf join the Upper School faculty this year teaching Logic School Bible and Tenth Grade Rhetoric. He also works in our Grammar School After-Care program. Please read a little more about him below and be sure to introduce yourself when you see him around campus.

What will your role be here? Logic School Bible Teacher, 10th Grade Rhetoric

Can you tell us a bit about your background and previous experience: This is my first year teaching but I’ve been working with kids since I was younger! I’ve worked as a salesmen, lifeguard, paper boy, delivery driver, barista, journalist, news show writer, and editor and podcast host.

What drew you to join CCA? I was looking for jobs in the area because I wanted to be closer to my girlfriend (don’t tell her but I’m planning on proposing soon). I’ve had my eye on teaching for a long time, and CCA had a wonderful reputation. I was homeschooled in the Classical tradition so I saw CCA as a natural fit!

What are you most looking forward to this school year? I’m excited to learn!! There is an old teaching philosophy that says “to teach is to learn” and I believe I’m going to be learning throughout the whole semester!

Favorite food: That’s hard… It really depends on my mood. Does free food count?

Favorite book: Dune. Reading the Dune series changed my outlook on life and helped me understand that I can’t control my own destiny or future.

Favorite Bible verse: 1 Cor. 5:21 comes to mind. I think it shows the beauty of Christ’s life and sacrifice and how we are to reach sanctification.

What are your hobbies or interests outside of work? I love listening to music and going to live concerts. I love the NBA and playing basketball, chess, guitar, lifting and running. I’ve recently started to play pickleball and would love to smoke any student or staff! (I’ll likely lose)

Share a fun or unique fact about yourself: I have 9 tattoos and only regret 1.

If you were to participate in the USLR Lip Sync Battle, which song would you sing? Amish Paradise by Weird Al

If you were to participate in the GS Star Wars dress-down day, which character would you be? Probably that monkey thing Jabba has

Is there anything you’d like to say to the community as you start your journey here? I’m excited to tackle new things alongside students and hopefully be able to join in that learning process. Many of y’all have welcomed me and made me feel at home so I hope I can reciprocate that by investing in the community and working hard!

We’re glad you’re here, Noah!
