Why Covenant?“We were made aware of Covenant through word of mouth. Our first in-person experience was at a Wednesday Open House. Our initial impression was that CCA was a safe and welcoming environment. That experience was consistent with what we witnessed during the application process and now that our daughter is a student at CCA. We were prompted to apply because of Covenant’s Christian mission and classical education. Additionally, CCA is focused on educating the whole person and Alanna could benefit from CCA’s excellent academic program, along with all of the arts and athletic offerings. We were also impressed by the college matriculation of the graduates. Since Alanna joined this Fall, we are genuinely pleased with the support from the CCA community at every level. CCA has delivered on providing what we experienced in the admissions and application process.” – The Giannino Family

All skill levels welcome, with a few projects needing expertise in plumbing, landscaping, and construction.
Stay tuned for project lists and sign-ups! |
Emergency LunchesJust a reminder that emergency lunches are available in the event of an emergency/urgent need. We are experiencing an increased volume of requests for these lunches. We are happy to provide a lunch to a student in the event of an emergency or urgent need, but they are not an alternative lunch option for students to use on a regular basis. Emergency lunches are $7.00 and billed through FACTS. |
Reminder: Nut-Free ClassroomsThis is a friendly reminder that ALL classrooms must remain a peanut and tree nut-free environment per CCA policy. This includes snacks consumed in the classroom by students in Pre-K through Gr. 12, as well as lunches consumed by Pre-K and Kindergarten students as they do not use the cafeteria. Students may still consume products with nuts at lunchtime in the cafeteria. A nut-free table is available for students with peanut and tree nut allergies if desired. Please be mindful of this policy when packing your student’s snacks or lunch for school. As always, feel free to contact Christen Ashley, RN at school.nurse@ccamail.org if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your consideration as we strive to keep all our students healthy and safe at school. |
PreK Farm Day: A Day of Friendship and Fun!
Last week, our PreK class experienced the joy of Farm Day, where they met some adorable new friends! From playful goats to fluffy bunnies and quacking ducks, the children had a blast petting and brushing the animals. With gentle hands and curious hearts, they learned the names of each furry and feathery companion, making unforgettable memories in the process.
Kindergarten Heroes: Meet Our First Responders!
This week, our Kindergarten class had a special visit from local heroes! Lieutenant DeOliveira from Somerville Police, Captain Graves from the Danvers Fire Department, and Dr. DiMauro from Middleton Dental Care shared their inspiring stories and important roles in our community. The children were captivated as they learned about bravery, teamwork, and how these first responders keep us safe. With engaging demonstrations and interactive discussions, our young learners discovered that heroes come in many forms, and they had the chance to ask questions and express their gratitude. Join us in celebrating these everyday champions!
1st Grade Adventure: Exploring Insects at Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary!
This week, our 1st graders embarked on an exciting field trip to the Mass Audubon Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary as part of their science unit focused on insects and spiders. Students had the chance to collect various specimens, from buzzing insects to fascinating spiders and other invertebrates. What better way to learn about the vital roles these creatures play in supporting healthy ecosystems than with hands-on, real world experiences!
2nd Grade Pumpkin Painting: Crafting Our World!
This week, our 2nd graders got creative with pumpkin painting, transforming ordinary pumpkins into vibrant pumpkin globes! This fun project tied into their lessons on map skills, where students explored continents, oceans, and hemispheres. As they painted and decorated, they engaged with geography in a hands-on way, reinforcing their understanding of the world around them. With colorful designs and imaginative flair, each pumpkin became a unique representation of our planet.

Rhetoric School Night Out: New England Revolution Game Recap!
CCA had a showing of 47 attendees at the New England Revolution game on Saturday. The Revs came up short against D.C. United with a final score of 2-1 but that didn’t stop our crew from having a memorable experience. Covenant seniors enjoyed a special treat, participating in the post-game crossbar challenge on the field. They had the chance to kick a soccer ball from the penalty arc, aiming to hit the crossbar. While no one managed to make the shot, several came close, and the excitement and camaraderie made for a fantastic evening.

Cougars RoundUp!
Wednesday, October 2nd:
MS Boys Soccer: CCA 3 vs. Tower 2
This was the most competitive game of the season to date with each team having a number of excellent chances to score. CCA jumped out to a quick 3-goal-lead with shots scored by Cole M (‘29), Tyler C (‘29), and Kaleb S (‘29). Just before the end of the half, Tower got on the board and carried the play for much of the second half, but Maddox M (‘30) was huge in goal with several outstanding plays that left the opponents shaking their heads in disbelief.
Boys Varsity Soccer: CCA 2 vs. Newman 0
The Cougars played a hard-fought match against Newman Academy. The game started a bit slow, with both teams seemingly trailing behind. The Cougars first goal of the game was scored by Bennett Plosker (‘25), assisted by Isaac Portugal (‘25). Less than five minutes later, Plosker scored his second goal which gave the Cougars a serious advantage over Newman. Although some excellent shots were taken in the second half, neither team scored, ending the game at 2-0. Some honorable mentions are Bennett Plosker demonstrating incredible leadership both on and off the field and Theo Ostrowski (‘25) who showed excellent defensive skills, especially during the second half of the game. Overall, it was a fantastic game for Covenant!
Girls Varsity Soccer: CCA 0 vs. Montrose 8
CCA experienced defeat for the first time after falling to a talented Montrose team 8-0.
Thursday, October 3rd:
Girls Varsity Soccer: CCA 10 vs. Newman 0
CCA bounced back from their first defeat of the season with a resounding 10-0 win over IGC opponent, Newman School. The visiting Cougars scored inside the first two minutes when a ball from Evie Hammond (’25) found its way over the Newman backline and Carys Walters (’25) buried it to give CCA the lead. Walters scored two more times in the 1st half to secure her hat trick. Covenant’s offense was firing on all cylinders as Nova Jones (’27) added two first half goals, while Leah McEachern (’26) and Marina Santos (’28) also scored to give CCA a 7-0 halftime lead. All players contributed to the day as the Cougars scored 3 more times in the second half with goals from Gianna Chamberlain (’26), Auldyn Anastasi (’27), and Haley Nelson (’26). CCA’s win improved their record to 7-1 on the season.
Boys Varsity Soccer: CCA 5 vs. Cambridge School of Weston 1
The CCA boys took on CSW on the road. The Cougars played quick and effectively, scoring 4 goals in the first half. Goals from Bennett Plosker (‘25), Matthew Stuart (‘25) assisted by Isaac Portugal (‘25), Wesley Libby (‘28) assisted by his brother Jacob Libby (‘25), and Mikey Graves (‘26) assisted by Wesley Libby. The second half was a close affair with both sides scoring one goal each. Simeon Yen (‘26) scored for Covenant, assisted by Jacob Libby. It was a perfect day for soccer and both teams played well!
Girls Varsity Volleyball: CCA 3 vs. CSW 1 (21-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-21)
The Girls Varsity Volleyball team traveled to CSW on Thursday night, and they won their match in four sets: 21-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-21. The Cougars did not have their “A game” for much of the match, but after a sluggish first set, they showed their mentality and heart by digging deep and trusting each other to find a way to grind out a win in each of the next three. The Cougars’ attack was led by Julia Ray (’25), who had 10 kills, and Leanna Rothier (’27), who added seven kills. Riley Baird (’25) facilitated the attack and distributed 20 assists during the match. The Cougars’ passing and serving were the keys to their victory, as both were consistent throughout the match. Every road win is a good win, and this one is no exception. Well done, girls!
Middle School Girls Soccer: CCA 1 vs. Pike 2
CCA got off to a very good start after an early goal by Bella D (‘29) on a free kick with just two minutes into the game. The Cougars kept pressuring for most of the first half and had a few opportunities, but then Pike took control of the game and ended up scoring halfway into the first half. In the second half, Pike continued to pressure, scoring a second goal, and dominated the midfield, giving Covenant very few opportunities to tie the game. The girls never quit, fought really hard, and even had an opportunity to tie the game, if not for the amazing save by Pike’s goalie. Despite the loss, it was a great game overall.
Saturday, October 5th:
Girls Varsity Volleyball: Christian Heritage School 3 vs. CCA 0 (19-25, 14-25, 20-25)
The Girls Varsity Volleyball team hosted the #1 ranked team in NEPSAC Class D, Christian Heritage, on Saturday afternoon. This was a good non-conference midseason test for our team – and also what we hope will be a NEPSAC playoff preview! Our girls played them tight for much of the match, but CHS proved more consistent on serve and serve-receive than CCA, which made the difference and led to a straight-set victory for CHS over CCA: 19-25, 14-25, 20-25. Riley Baird (’25) paced our team throughout the match with her serve (5 aces), her distribution (12 assists), and her vocal leadership on the floor. Leanna Rothier (’27) and Julia Ray (’25) led the attack with 6 kills each, and Maley Adair (’26) and Ella Chewning (’25) kept the Cougars in several rallies with their defensive work.
Monday, October 7th:
Girls Varsity Volleyball: CCA 3 vs. Gann 1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-19)
The Varsity Girls Volleyball team traveled to Gann on Monday night and won an important road match in the IGC in 4 sets: 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-19. The match hinged on the 2nd set, when CCA was trailing late only to be buoyed by the smart and savvy play of captain Riley Baird (’25) and outside hitter Leanna Rothier (’27). After pulling out the tight 2nd set, the Cougars’ offense was able to carry them the rest of the way. On attack, the Cougars were led by Leanna with 18 kills and Julia Ray (’25) with 15 kills. Setter Riley Baird distributed 39 assists during the match, besting her own single-game record for assists by 8! Libero Ella Chewning (’25) had a fantastic game on serve-receive. And from behind the service line, the Cougars were balanced and consistent, with Riley, Leanna, Julia, and Shirley Whitmore (’25) each serving 6 aces during the match. Nice win, girls!
Girls JV Volleyball: CCA 2 vs. Gann 0 (25-17, 25-13)
The CCA Girls JV Volleyball team showcased their teamwork and determination in a solid victory against Gann, winning in straight sets with scores of 25-17 and 25-13. Although they started a bit slow, the girls quickly found their rhythm, demonstrating impressive passing and communication on the court. With each point, they encouraged one another, building momentum and finishing the match on a high note.
Tuesday, October 8th:
Middle School Boys Soccer: CCA 0 vs. St. John’s Prep 0
In an exciting showdown on the field, the CCA Middle School Boys Soccer team faced off against St. John’s Prep, resulting in a hard-fought scoreless draw. The match showcased the teams’ evenly matched skills, with CCA creating several promising opportunities in the second half that could have turned the tide. Despite their valiant efforts and close calls, the game ended 0-0, highlighting the team’s defensive strength and determination.
Boys Varsity Soccer: CCA 3 vs. Waring 2
The Cougars defeated Waring with a final score of 3-2. During the first half of the game, the boys started relatively strong, playing mainly on the offensive. Wes Libby (‘28) scored the first goal after a throw-in from Isaac Portugal (’25) and took the lead against Waring. Isaac scored the game’s second goal after a pass from Ethan Velasquez (‘27). As the first half wrapped up, both teams seemed to be fading fast and needed to bring the energy back for the second half. Both teams reentered with more power than before, allowing Jacob Libby (‘25) to score the 3rd goal of the game after taking a PK. However, this lead may have resulted in comfortability and loss of motivation, as CCA allowed Waring to score two goals in the last five minutes. This increase was not enough for Waring to take the lead, and the CCA Cougars won the game with a final score of 3-2.
Wednesday, October 9th:
Girls Varsity Volleyball: CCA 3 – Newman 0 (25-21, 25-10, 25-18)
The Girls Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Newman School on Wednesday afternoon, and they won convincingly in straight sets: 25-21, 25-10, 25-18. The girls played as a team from start to finish, talking, moving, covering for each other and making smart plays. Everyone played a role in the win. The players on the court drew a ton of energy from the volume of the celebrations and encouragements coming from our bench throughout the match. The Cougars’ consistency from behind the service line kept the passers from Newman off-balance for most of the match, and our girls were efficient with their offensive opportunities. Leanna Rothier (’27) led the Cougars’ attack with 12 kills and 7 aces, and Julia Ray (’25) and Riley Baird (’25) added 6 kills. Riley, Maley Adair (’26), and Fernanda Silva-Fernandes (’25) combined for 15 aces, and Magdalen Miller (’25), Shirley Whitmore (’25), and Ella Chewning (’25) made a number of important defensive plays. This was a good road win against a good opponent – well done, girls!
Girls Varsity Soccer: CCA 2 vs. Hoosac School 2
CCA hosted NEPSAC Class D opponent Hoosac School in what was the game of the year. The Cougars jumped out to a 1-0 lead after striker Carys Walters (’25) ran onto a through ball from Anna Jukanovich (’25). Walters slotted the ball past the keeper for her 7th goal of the season. Hoosac would equalize on a penalty kick midway through the half and then take the lead 10 minutes later on a header from a corner kick. Trailing 2-1, CCA came out strong in the 2nd half and dictated the play. The Cougars hit the crossbar twice and generated multiple chances. With 5 minutes to play, Nova Jones (’27) controlled the ball at midfield with one defender to beat. She maintained control as she entered the penalty area. The Hoosac goal keeper came off her line and as she did, Jones scored the tying goal and her 10th of the year. CCA almost snuck in a third goal, but the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Next up for CCA (7-1-1) is Boston Trinity Academy at home on Wednesday, October 16.
Varsity Cross Country:
The Cross Country teams travelled to Waring for this week’s competition. CCA runners pushed through the challenging 3.1 mile wooded course, filled with hills and rough terrain. The boys race went off first and Covenant had many strong finishes. Drew M (‘29) placed 7th, Elliot Smith (‘28) placed 28th, Braylan Ford (‘28) placed 29th, and William N (‘30) was 39th. For the girls’ race, Nora Robinson (’25) was 14th, Yasmine S (‘30) was 19th, Lilly Stuart (‘27) placed 29th, Elle Blosser (‘27) placed 32nd and Ava Mosley (‘27) finished 67th. Great job overall to all our runners on completing a challenging course against strong competition!
Join us in welcoming Michelle Perrotta back to the Grammar School team!Michelle made the decision to transition back to the classroom this year after serving as CCA’s Director of Admissions for the past two years. She joins Mrs. Ashley Valletta on the Fourth Grade teaching team.
What will your role be here? Fourth Grade Teacher
Can you tell us a bit about your background and previous experience? I earned my MAT from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. My career began at Covenant, where I’ve had the privilege of serving in several roles over the past seven years. I started as a TA in PreK, then spent three years teaching in my own classroom. In 2022, I transitioned to the role of Director of Admissions and I enjoyed welcoming new families to CCA. This year however, I’m thrilled to return to teaching fourth graders, a grade level I love working with!
What drew you to join CCA? I attended a Christian school from Preschool through 12th grade and cherished every moment, especially being part of a faith-based community. After a two-hour interview with Mrs. Bergstrom and Miss Oliver, I knew Covenant was unlike any other school. They, along with the many wonderful people I met during the hiring process, truly highlighted how special this community is.
What are you most looking forward to this school year? Mrs. Valletta is an amazing teacher to work alongside! She is a fantastic teammate.
Favorite food: Tacos!
Favorite book: How to Walk Into a Room by Emily P. Freeman
Favorite Bible verse: Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
What are your hobbies or interests outside of work? I love taking long walks with friends around Beverly and also have a passion for dancing.
Share a fun or unique fact about yourself: During my junior year of college, I participated in the Disney College Program, spending six months working at Disney Springs!
If you were to participate in the USLR Lip Sync Battle, which song would you sing? I Wanna Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston
Which character would you be for the GS Star Wars dress-down day? BB 8
Is there anything you’d like to say to the community as you start your journey here? One of the greatest aspects of Covenant is the people who work here. Our faculty and staff are not only exceptional at what they do but are also genuinely wonderful individuals. I’m truly blessed to work alongside coworkers who are great friends.
It’s a pleasure having you on our team, Michelle! |
