Covenant Commentaries

Friday, April 5th | 8:15 am | CCA Cafeteria

Our next Covenant Commentary, Turning School Inside Out, will be held on Friday, April 5th during the Covenant Parent Connection meeting at 8:15 am. Following on the heels of Andrea Bergstrom and Tracy Bennett’s commentary about technology, anxiety, and the developing mind, USLR Faculty Member and Classical Roots program Steward Alex Miller will present an unexpected solution to the anxiety epidemic: green spaces and hands-on work here on our campus. It’s been three years since Classical Roots began and, since then, our community has seen profound benefits from this humble program. In this Covenant Commentary, Alex Miller will make the bold suggestion that these gardens are not an addition to our mission and identity but an essential part of them, since they provide the best possible solutions to the next generation’s most urgent needs.

This session will be recorded for those who cannot attend.

If you have questions about Covenant Commentaries or would like to suggest topics for future Commentaries, please contact Nicole Wise Williams, Chief Advancement Officer, at nicole.williams@ccamail.org

SCHOOL NURSE

Updated MDPH Guidance for Respiratory Illness

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has reviewed the recent changes in the CDC’s guidance regarding respiratory virus isolation strategies and updated recommendations for the general public to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses (including COVID-19). The full guidance can be found by clicking on the link below.

MDPH Guidance For Respiratory Illnesses

Note that the section for “Schools & Childcare Settings” now shares the same guidelines as the general public. CCA will continue to follow these guidelines as outlined by MDPH. Please remember the following school policies also still apply:

  • Students with a fever of 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit must stay home from school until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.
  • Students with severe respiratory symptoms (such as uncontrollable coughing, copious nasal drainage, etc.) should also remain home from school until symptoms improve.

Notify the school nurse if your student is diagnosed or tests positive for infectious diseases, including (but not limited to) COVID-19, influenza, strep throat, etc.  This is important as we monitor for infectious disease outbreaks in specific grades, classrooms, or groups, and send out health advisories to our school community as appropriate.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact school.nurse@ccamail.org or reach out to your primary healthcare provider.

Girls Volleyball Clinic–Off to a Great Start!

Twenty-seven students from grades 5–7 enjoyed their first week of volleyball fun! Through drills, games, and competitions, students worked on the three main touches in volleyball: passing, setting, and hitting. They also worked on improving their communication and footwork, which are essential to playing well individually and as a team. They are being coached by eight of our Varsity and JV volleyball players, and they are having a blast!

Next week we are back at it again: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We’re looking forward to another great week!
