Annual 100th Day Donation DriveMonday, February 5th–Thursday, February 15th
This month, CCA will honor our annual commitment to support a valuable Peabody organization we have partnered with for more than ten years! Citizens Inn/Haven from Hunger includes a food pantry and community meals program. The food pantry provides free, nutrient-dense food to low- and moderate-income families and individuals.
Clients may visit the pantry once every seven days to receive groceries that help them stretch their budgets and allow them to take care of other critical needs such as personal health, housing, utilities, and student loans. Haven serves over 5,500 unique individuals from Peabody, Salem, and Lynnfield (nearly 1,000 households per week) and distributes over 2 million pounds of food annually. The community meals program offers guests a nutritious supper four nights a week and is open to anyone from all communities. Haven serves approximately 15,600 meals annually. Click here to learn more about Citizens Inn.
Please refer to the attached flyer to discover how your child’s class/grade will participate in the effort in honor of our 100th Day of School. We invite you to help your classrooms achieve the possible goal of collecting 100 designated items to help others in need.
Please bring your contributions to Morning Drop Off beginning February 5th and ending February 15th!
USLR students will receive House points for most items collected!
Thanks for all you can do for our Peabody community! |

Cougars Round Up
Boys Varsity Basketball:
Monday, February 5th:
CCA: 51, Marie Philip: 47
The Boys Varsity Basketball team improved to 11-7 (9-1 in the MBIL) with a key league victory over visiting Marie Philip. With the victory CCA clinches a home court game in the semifinals of next week’s league tournament. Leading the way for the Cougars was Bennett Plosker, who netted 21 points. Also contributing to the win was eighth-grade guard Jacob Chewning (9 points), junior forward Jacob Libby (6 points, 10 rebounds) and junior guard Isaac Portugal (6 points), who all played key roles in stifling Marie Philip’s chief offensive threats.
Wednesday, February 7th:
BU 56, CCA 34 – Senior Night
The Boys Varsity Basketball team lost to Boston University Academy on Wednesday. After the game, coach Bradford shared that there was nothing much to say other than what he did say – which lasted less than a minute: We will get them next time. Despite the loss, the boys rallied to celebrate seniors Tim Soria and Solomon Ngethe at their last regular season home game. Coach Bradford shared:
“I always feel like there is not enough time or words to sum up our sentiments and appreciation for our seniors, and that was certainly the case this time around. But fortunately there was one message that fit both young men so perfectly which I found myself repeating over and over and over: You simply aren’t going to find better people, better teammates, more caring student-athletes or better leaders than Tim and Solomon. I know I share the sentiments of all the coaches in saying we have been so unbelievably blessed to have both of them in our lives.”
Girls Varsity Basketball
Friday, February 2nd:
CCA: 31, Brimmer and May: 33
The Girls Varsity Basketball team lost a closely contested game versus Brimmer and May on Friday. The final score of 33-31 was reflective of how this game was played with neither side able to gain a real advantage. The game went down to the final shot but CCA rimmed out the game tying attempt. Liza Minogue led the scoring with 18 and Julia Ray played a dominant all-around game scoring 9.
Monday, February 5th:
CCA: 47, ISB: 13
The Girls Varsity Basketball team defeated International School of Boston by the final score of 47-13. Liza Minogue led the scoring with 16 points. Eight of the nine players contributed to the scoring column in this contest.
Boys JV Basketball
Wednesday, February 7th:
CCA: 42, YOY: 48
The Boys JV Basketball team fought hard against Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael but unfortunately didn’t came up short of a win. The boys did win in terms of how they’ve progressed as a team and the level of effort each guy put into the game. Shepherd has come a long way since his first game and was a beast battling their big guys down low–he had a whopping 17 rebounds along with 8 points. Nate was a scoring machine and led the Cougars with 13 points. Spencer scored 11, and Jacob added a key 8 points. Big efforts by Zeke, Mikey and Tristan on defense.
Boys Middle School Basketball
Thursday, February 1st:
The Boys Middle School Basketball team traveled to Boston for a game with Boston Trinity Academy. It was evident early on it would be an uphill battle, as the Cougar squad consisted of only eight players and the BTA squad numbered 20 plus. Additionally on average BTA had a height advantage of 6 to 12 inches per player. CCA fearlessly battled and mixed it up, applying their boxing out skills and working hard on the defensive end to disrupt BTA’s offense. Offensively they set screens and weren’t intimidated taking the ball into the paint. Once again Coach Curtis and Coach Best were proud of the effort put forth by GreysonB., Kaleb S., and Braylan F. and their tenacious play on defense, as well as Zeb B., Charlie S. and Sam W. on the backline, and of course the steady consistent play of Tyler C. and Judah L. In spite of coming up short on the scoreline, there was consistent encouragement from each player to one another.
Tuesday, February 6th:
The Boys Middle School Basketball team played their last home game of the season versus Shore Country Day. This would be the final home game for 8th graders Jack F., Braylan F., Cam F., Elliot S. and Sam W. These five played their hearts out in their final game, with four of them (Jack, Braylan, Cam and Sam) each nailing three pointers! Though Elliot did not score, he made two hustling plays on defense, as he sprinted full court to come up with two block shots on two separate occasions on opponents who thought they had breakaway scores. These 8th graders were supported in this team effort by leading scorer Connor C., Judah L.’s overall aggressive play and Zeb B. and Tyler C.’s savvy work on defense with several steals and blocked shots. In spite of their hard work, we came up short in the score column. Yet their positive, encouraging support of one another shone through brightly!
