Jade’s Garden: “Free Book Library” Donations Welcome

Jade’s Garden is a beautifully renovated memorial courtyard for our Early Childhood students. Seven years ago, the Covenant community experienced the devastating loss of one of our own precious students. Adored by her teachers and classmates alike, Jade Williamson was full of life and joy as she prepared to begin kindergarten in the fall of 2016. A sudden illness, just shy of her fifth birthday tragically took Jade’s life and left her family and loved ones shattered. Our community grieved with the Williamsons, prayed together, and celebrated Jade’s short life, while promising never to forget her beautiful spirit. Jade was a gift to us all and we will always join with Adam, Jenny and Jacob (Gr. 10) in keeping her memory alive. God has been faithful and true and the Williamson family will attest to the many ways that God has used this tragedy, bringing beauty out of ashes. If you have never had the chance we encourage you to visit Jade’s Garden in between our PreK and Kindergarten classrooms.

Mrs. Granda has been doing some much-needed spring updates to Jade’s Garden and noticed we are low on books in the Free Book Library. If you’d like to contribute gently used books for ages 3-7 about nature, farms, gardens, plants, animals, bugs, or weather, please drop them off at the main office or reach out to Mrs. Granda for more information: holly.granda@ccamail.org.

From Hearts to Dreams: Dr. Jonathan Nitz Inspires Fourth-Graders with His Medical Journey and Passion for Healing

Fourth-grade students had the incredible opportunity of having CCA dad, Dr. Jonathan Nitz, come and share with them about his journey to Medical School and why he desired to specialize in heart surgery. At the age of ten, Dr. Nitz’s closest brother had open heart surgery. The care that the medical team showed not only had an impact on the brother receiving surgery but on Dr. Nitz as well. From that point on he knew what he wanted to do.

He talked with the kids about what delayed gratification meant, encouraging them to work hard at whatever their passion was for all the goodness at the end. He encouraged them to give everything they do all they’ve got, as in doing it for God. They counted up the 18 years of schooling, research, and fellowships he had done until this point, and by the passion and smile on his face they could tell it was all worth it.

Not only were the students amazed at being able to view a real pig’s heart, but they also got to see up close pictures of his brother’s heart from many years ago, ready for surgery. Dr Nitz brought the beauty and wonder of his profession, hard work, and the honor of following God’s call for you to life.

A very special thank you to Dr. Nitz for giving us this incredible opportunity. The Nitz family will be leaving us at the end of this year as the next step in his journey takes them away from New England. Jonathan and Sarah Nitz have Lucy in 6th grade, Jackson in 4th grade, Elizabeth in 2nd grade, and William in Kindergarten at CCA, as well as two more siblings at home. We wish a special blessing on each of them as they continue their beautiful journey. And special thanks to Sarah, for being Mrs. Larsen’s room mom this year! They will all be missed!

Rising Stars: Third-Grade Talent Extravaganza

Mrs. Bartel’s third-grade class earned a talent show of their very own They were each allowed to present a talent to their classmates and guests. These talents ranged from playing the violin to dancing to showing basketball moves. Each student showed something they were proud of and were reminded that God gifts all of us in different ways. They had such a supportive turnout–over 30 guests came for their small class of 12 students!

Watch Our Students Shine: Tune in to Channel 5 for a Special Shout Out with Meteorologist David Williams!

Friday, May 10th | 4:30–7:30 am | Channel 5 Eye-Opener News

About a month ago CCA students in grades 2-4 enjoyed a very informative visit from local meteorologist David Williams. At that time, as is customary for these school visits, we ended our time together with a brief “Shout Out” by the students which was recorded for a future broadcast.

We just received word that the morning shout-out the kids filmed with David Williams will be shown on Channel 5 on May 10th during the Eye-Opener Newscast between 4:30–7:00 am. It will likely be shown several times throughout that time period.

We hope you will be able to tune in or record this fun moment!

UPPER SCHOOL OF LOGIC & RHETORIC

“Identity Crisis” Movie Screening

Friday, April 26th | 6:00–9:00 pm | CCA Small Gym

Attention all 6th–12th grade girls!

Last chance to sign up for an exclusive FREE movie screening of the award-winning “Identity Crisis.” This fun, faith-based family comedy follows a smart but overly shy college girl named Madison. Madison is a bookworm who chooses to constantly study or work in her college library rather than socialize. However, she encounters all sorts of comical problems when she creates her clone, who is everything she’s not.

Following the viewing, the film’s writer and producer, Andrea Polnaszek, a licensed clinical social worker, will share her journey into filmmaking and emphasize the film’s message on the importance of discerning who God says we are versus the broader culture.

Don’t miss this unique and fun-filled opportunity to connect with peers, watch a fun film, and engage in a discussion with a talented filmmaker!

Click here for a special message from Andrea Polnaszek.

This is a free event but space is limited and pre-registration is required. Click here to reserve your spot!

CCA 13, Gann 14

CCA Girls Varsity Softball fell to Gann Academy 14-13 in a hard-fought battle that Gann won in walk-off fashion in its final at-bat in the bottom of the seventh.

The Cougars offense was led by Maley Adair who went 3 for 4 with a triple, an RBI, and 2 runs scored. Allie Freedman had a key bases-loaded triple that broke a tie in the top of the seventh inning, putting the Cougars up by 3. Allie’s 3 RBIs on the play gave her the team lead in RBIs. Isabella DeCotis reached base all five times she came to the plate, drawing four walks and a base hit, and scoring two runs.  Haley Nelson reached base three times on three walks and scored two runs. Kat Smith and Sarah Desouza also had key RBI hits in the game, and Sophia Jacobson contributed with an RBI.

Freedman pitched the complete game for the Cougars giving up 11 hits and 14 runs over six and 2/3 innings. The Cougars’ strong infield defense was led by several ground balls gobbled up by second baseman Adair and the consistent reliability of DeCotis at first base.
