GENERAL NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Parents in Prayer

Parents in Prayer is a fellowship led by CCA parent Pastor Charles Rukwaro and is open to all CCA parents. We gather once a month (the first Wednesday of each month in the faculty/staff lounge following morning drop-off) to pray for our community. You are welcome to join us! Our next prayer meeting is Wednesday, November 1st, at 8:15am. Please reach out to Pastor Charles with any questions: crukwaro@calvarychristian.church.

Veterans Day – Honoring All Who Served

We will hold our annual Veterans Day All-School Assembly on Wednesday, November 8th, at 2:00pm in the PAAC. We want to invite all of our community Veterans to attend this special event so we can thank and honor each of you.

As we have in the past, we would like to present a slideshow highlighting veterans who are part of the extended CCA community. If your family would like to participate, please submit photos of family members who are either veterans or active duty service members. Include their name, relationship to your student, branch of service, rank, and years of service. We would love to include our students’ grandparents, aunts, uncles, parents, brothers, and sisters! Submit photos to lisa.coleman@ccamail.org no later than 11/1 for inclusion. Please note that if you have sent the picture and information to Lisa Coleman in the past, you do not need to send it again.

An Evening of Gratitude

Please mark your calendars and plan to join us as we host Covenant’s Evening of Gratitude for you, our Covenant family, on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Olio (Peabody).

Our calendar originally stated this celebration of our faith-filled community would take place on November 4; however, there were limited venues that met our standards and specifications for the kind of celebration we wanted to offer you.

Planning is underway, so stay tuned for more details in the new year.

Questions regarding the Evening of Gratitude and silent and live auction and corporate sponsorship opportunities can be directed to Nicole Wise Williams, Chief Advancement Officer, at nicole.williams@ccamail.org.

Covenant Commentaries

Thanks to all who came to listen to our first Covenant Commentary, and special thanks to CCA Chaplain, Jason Lawrenz, for sharing a timely and relevant message about identity through the lens of scripture. Jason eloquently shared a biblical perspective on the topic of Identity. Many have asked if this presentation was recorded, and while we were unable to pull it off this time, we are happy to share the powerful transcript with you here. Any questions about this topic may be directed to Jason Lawrenz at jason.lawrenz@ccamail.org. For questions about Covenant Commentaries or to suggest topics for future Commentaries, please contact Nicole Williams, Chief Advancement Officer, at nicole.williams@ccamail.org

Save the date for our upcoming Commentaries!

FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE

School Health Reminder: When Should I Keep My Student Home?

We’ve seen an increase in cold and flu symptoms within our school community over the past couple weeks, including coughs, runny noses, sore throats, and fevers. Minor cold symptoms and fall allergies are fairly common and to be expected this time of year; however, it’s important to take appropriate health measures to help avoid the spread of germs.

To promote the health and well being of our Covenant community, please carefully review the following CCA school health policies about when you should keep your student home:

  1. In the event of diagnosed infectious disease, (such as COVID-19, flu, strep throat, etc.) parents must notify the school nurse. The student should remain home for the appropriate amount of time according to their doctor’s recommendations.  For COVID-19, follow current isolation and return-to-school guidelines according to the MA Department of Public Health.
  2. Keep student home if they have a fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. (Please do NOT medicate your child for fever in the morning, and then send them to school.) Students may return to school after remaining fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.
  3. Do not send your student to school if they have any of the following symptoms:
    • Vomiting or diarrhea over the past 24 hours
    • Copious nasal drainage
    • Excessive/uncontrollable coughing
    • Red or pink eyes with crusty and/or yellow/green drainage

For minor symptoms, consider medicating your student at home with over-the-counter cold or allergy medication if applicable prior to school. Please contact your child’s pediatrician directly if you have questions or concerns regarding ongoing or worsening illness. Students who present to school sick will be sent to the school nurse for assessment and may be dismissed home.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. As always, please feel free to reach out to the CCA school nurse at 978-535-7100 or school.nurse@ccamail.org if you have any questions.

House Cupdate

During Community on Friday, our houses competed in a Scottish tradition – the Highland Games. To get in the spirit, 10 bonus points were awarded to houses for anyone wearing kilts. Students competed in a hammer throw (pool noodles with a ball taped to the end), caber toss (two-handed heave of a 2×4), stone put (shot put with a stone), weight for height (heaving a bag of sand backward over a badminton net that got higher each round). In addition, each house put together a five-member kazoo band to play “Scotland the Brave” while five other students performed a Scottish Sword Dance. Bojaxhiu and King tied for first place, Wilberforce came in third place, and Ten Boom in fourth. Below are the updated totals for this year’s house cup competition.

Cougar Round Up!

Boys Varsity Soccer:

10/23: The Boys Varsity Soccer team played a well-fought game against Gann in a 4-2 match. While the boys did not win, they played to the best of their ability. In the first half of the game, Gann started by scoring two goals; however, the CCA boys quickly evened the field by scoring two of their own. Bennett Plosker scored the first goal with an assist from Jacob Libby, and Isaac Portugal scored the second with a beautiful assist from Tristan Vieira. The Cougars entered the second half of the game with massive energy, and while continuing to fight their hardest, Gann scored two more goals, ultimately taking the victory. Despite the disappointing loss, the team truly gave it their all, and we are proud of what they accomplished. A few honorable mentions are seniors Dylan Curtis, Tim Soria, and Solomon Ngethe; all three boys demonstrated exceptional leadership and encouraged the entire team. A few more mentions are Simeon Yen and Wes Libby. Both boys demonstrated absolute control over the ball and greatly aided the team, allowing them to play to their full ability. Despite the loss, the CCA Cougars played an excellent match against Gann.

Girls Varsity Soccer:

10/25: The Girls Varsity Soccer game ended in a 4-0 win for CCA! The girls played hard and played well for their seniors! Greta Baird scored the first goal, and Liza scored the three after! Coach Isabella says, “I am so proud of how they played. The work ethic and determination to do better is great!” Congrats to our seniors, Liza Minogue and Lucy McLellan, for all they have accomplished as CCA Cougars!

Girls Varsity Volleyball:

10/26: The varsity girls hosted Gann on Thursday night for senior night. After celebrating seniors Camille Fisher and Fiona Moll, the girls won an entertaining, back-and-forth match in 5 sets: 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-7. The Cougars struggled at times with some uncharacteristically poor service by their standards. Still, they overcame that difficulty with one of their best offensive matches of the season, tallying a team total of 35 kills. Julia Ray led the attack with 12 kills, and setter Riley Baird added eight kills while dishing out 24 assists. The victory solidified a winning season for the Cougars, as they finished 7-6 in conference and 8-7 overall.

Boys Middle School Soccer:

10/24: The Boys Middle School Soccer’s last game of the season was quite challenging as they faced off against the formidable LCA players. LCA not only had size on their side but some serious skills, too. The final score was 6-0 in their favor, but we had some shining stars on our team. David P. showed incredible focus and determination while defending the CCA area and always displayed great sportsmanship. Kaleb wowed us with some fantastic moves, possibly honed during our practice sessions, and Daniel stepped up as the ultimate team player. In the second half, our team returned with a renewed sense of unity and focus, proving that we are a team to be reckoned with. What a way to end the season!

Girls Middle School Soccer:

10/24: The Girls Middle School Soccer team finished their season with a victory, winning 4-1 against LCA! The girls kept the pressure throughout the game and fought until the final whistle. This win was made possible with our strong defense playing tough in both halves and Marina S., Marie M., Kelly S., and Isabella D. putting shots in the net. These girls have worked incredibly hard all season, learning to pass the ball, create goal-scoring opportunities, and take control of the game. Way to go, GMSS!

ROWING AT GORDON:

CCA students Lila Kenis and Ryan Jones competed with their teams in the 58th annual Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston last Sunday with Gordon Junior Rowers. The Regatta is considered the largest 3-day rowing event in the world, drawing over 11,000 athletes from 25 countries this year. The 3-mile race proved challenging due to strong winds and the sharp turns of the river, but both teams demonstrated almost perfect rowing technique as they navigated the course from start to finish to post respectable times. The Head of the Fish Regatta, the final event of the season, will be held on October 29th in Saratoga, NY.
