CCA’s Countdown to ISS ContactLess than 2 Weeks Until Contact!
What’s the best way to communicate with the ISS? Using Radio Waves of Course. Check out this week’s video Making Waves with William to learn a little bit more about how they work!
Next week we’ll be tying this all together before the big day! Exciting news: We will find out from ARISS & NASA on Monday evening what day/time our contact will be the following week!
If you want more information about the ISS contact or the CCA Radio Club, please contact USLR STEM Coordinator Jennifer O’Riorden at jennifer.oriorden@ccamail.org. If you want to support this exciting initiative financially, please contact Nicole Wise Williams, Chief Advancement Officer, at nicole.williams@ccamail.org. |

ALICE TrainingDirector of Campus Security, Josh Ulrich, visited grammar school classrooms this week to conduct age-appropriate training teaching students skills such as how to recognize potential danger, how to respond in emergencies, and how to work together to stay safe. As communicated last week, we are so blessed by Mr. Ulrich’s safety experience and expertise. The sessions were engaging, informative, and age-appropriate. USLR students took part in an Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate (ALICE) training with Mr. Ulrich on Friday during Community, which included a demonstration featuring members of CCA’s Junior class and Nikos!
Covenant also thanks Sgt. Sullivan of Peabody PD for attending and sharing his thoughts and encouragement of CCA’s protocols.
Covenant will hold its first ALICE drill on October 5th; however, it will not include an evacuation component. If you have any questions about Covenant’s safety and security measures, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Ulrich at Joshua.ulrich@ccamail.org. |
Grandparents’ & Special Friends’ DayNext week in the Grammar School (Friday, Oct. 6th) we will enjoy one of our favorite events here at CCA. Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day is one of the most well attended events we hold each year and such a wonderful opportunity for our students to connect with some very special people in their lives.
We will be holding the event from 8:15am-11:15am on Friday, October 6th. Guests may enjoy light refreshments in the PAAC courtyard from 8:15-8:45am, followed by our program at 8:45am in the PAAC and classroom visits immediately following the program. Guests will depart by 11:15am and are welcome to dismiss students with your permission by 11:30am. Students may invite Grandparents or a special friend. Due to capacity limits, attendance at this event is intended for our special guests and students only and we request that parents support us as volunteers or by contributing refreshments. More detailed information, including a request for guest names and addresses, will be sent home from individual classrooms soon. Please note: Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day is on a Friday this year which differs from years past! This event is sponsored by CCA and by YOU, the Parents! Each year we are blessed by the outpouring of support through donations and volunteerism that has been the key to a successful and enjoyable event! We are counting on you to help us pull off this great morning! Please follow the link below to see how you can donate refreshments (please send them plated and ready to serve) or your time. Please note – the link may not be accessible on some cell phones. Thank you in advance for your willingness to contribute to this community building celebration.

This Week in PreSchool and PreK
Mrs. Tammaro’s PreSchool and PreK classes enjoyed making cinnamon apple sauce (YUMMM!!!) and working on our fine motor skills using shaving cream. (It’s so fun getting messy at school!)
This Week in Kindergarten
Kindergarten students finished up their unit on Apples and the letter “A” with a trip to Brooksby Farm in Peabody where they got to enjoy a hay ride to the orchard to pick some apples followed by an apple cider and apple donut treat in the barn.
This Week in 4th Grade
Fourth graders took time during the first week of school to write down information about themselves. Then, Mr. Ulrich, CCA’s Director of Security, loaded the secret Time Capsule. He secured it tightly, so no one could open it and hid it somewhere secret in the school. In June, he’ll come back and open their time capsule, and the students will get to see what has changed and stayed the same after their Fourth grade year!
RS Homecoming DanceOn Saturday, Oct. 14th Rhetoric School students will have their Night in the City themed Homecoming Dance from 7:00-9:30pm in the PAAC. Cost is $25/person and permission slips are required to attend. Soft soled shoes are acceptable for the dance floor; high heeled shoes must come off prior to entering the PAAC. Permissions slips must be turned in to Mrs. Curtis’ office by Friday, October 6th! Any questions about attire or anything else can be directed to Mr. Mac at jim.macdonald@ccamail.org. |
From the College Guidance Office
The College Guidance office will begin hosting admissions representatives from various colleges this fall. All Rhetoric School students are invited to attend. Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to attend and learn more about possible schools, programs, and college admissions. Representatives from the following schools are scheduled to visit CCA this fall during Homeroom/Advisory in The Commons:
Tuesday, October 3rd
|
Tuesday, October 10th
|
Thursday, October 12th |
Friday, October 20th
|
Thursday, October 26th
|
Stay tuned for more visits as they are scheduled! See Mrs. Draper or email Rebecca.draper@ccamail.org with questions!
This week in PreCal
Students in Precalculus are quickly becoming statisticians. They were busy this week discovering the binomial theorem through drawing beautiful tree diagrams and then a couple days later measuring the leafs of real trees to discuss the mean, median, mode, mean average deviation, variance and standard deviation of leaf lengths outside CCA. It may seem abnormal to be so active, but it will soon all connect to a very normal… distribution of data.

Cougar Round Up!
Boys Varsity Soccer:
9/28: The Covenant Boys Varsity Soccer team were defeated by Brimmer and May on Thursday with a final score of 2-3. The Cougars started the game off strong, with Bennett Plosker scoring the first goal in the first 10 minutes of the game. Brimmer and May then scored to tie up the game and Covenant came back to score another (also by Bennett) before the end of the first half. At the beginning of the second half the Cougars pace slowed down a bit, allowing Brimmer and May to score another goal. The Covenant boys gave it all they had to keep up, however Brimmer and May was able to score the final goal of the game and take the win. Covenant will come back Monday with that same fire when they verse CSW.
Girls Varsity Soccer
9/27: After a slow start for the Girls Varsity Soccer Team, the Cougars scored four goals in the first half of Wednesday’s game, sealing a 5-2 win against Newman. Goals were scored by Novalee Jones (2), Carys Walters, Anna Jukanovich, and Liza Minogue with assists by Greta Baird and Liza. Evie Hammond, Ellie Landymore, Anne Hammond, and Sophia Jacobson played strong defensively. Isabella DeCotis and Auldyn Anastasi denied multiple scoring opportunities on goal! It was a well fought game by both teams and a hard earned victory by the Cougars!
9/29: The Cougars sealed a huge 6-0 victory against Waring. It was a shutout for Isabella DeCotis and the defense with goals from Novalee Jones, Leah McEachern, a hattrick from Liza Minogue, a Penalty Kick from 8th grader Marie M, and two assist by Greta Baird!
Girls Varsity Volleyball
9/27: The Girls Varsity Volleyball team roared back from 2 sets down to win a 5-set thriller against CHCH at home on Wednesday: 17-25, 26-28, 25-17, 25-14, 15-10. The girls were led by Riley Baird, who had 20 assists and found her groove from the service line in the 4th and 5th sets. Libby Beville almost single-handedly won the 3rd set for the Cougars as she went on a 10-point service run. Julia Ray and Leanna Rothier led the attack with 7 kills each. Ella Chewning and Shirley Whitmore made several offensive and defensive plays late in the match to help secure the victory.
9/29: The Varsity girls volleyball team fell to Montrose School on Friday night, losing a tightly-contested four-set match. The two teams traded sets early, but in the 3rd and 4th sets, a few pivotal points went the way of Montrose as CCA came up a bit short. Leanna Rothier and Julia Ray led the attack for the Cougars, combining for 12 kills and 11 service aces. Shirley Whitmore added 3 kills, and Libby Beville had a strong game from behind the service line and on defense.
Varsity Cross Country
9/27: The Varsity Girls Cross Country team competed in a 2.76 mile race at Larz Anderson Park, hosted by Brimmer and Mae. Nora Robinson led the Cougars, finishing in 14th place with a time of 26:43. Close behind, Lily Stuart crossed the line in 15th place with a time of 27:02. Beatrice Kline was CCA’s next runner to finish, placing 24th with a time of 28:37. Elle Blosser finished in 26th place, running 29:13- over TWO minutes faster than last week’s race of a similar distance!!
Boys JV Soccer
9/27: The Boys JV Soccer team had an impressive showing against Chapel Hill Chauncy Hall on Wednesday, defeating them 13-0. The boys had the opportunity to try a variety of positions while maintaining their composure and intensity throughout. Three players had hat tricks: Nathan Cerquiera, Colin Moll, and Alexander Sands (who scored four). Caleb Hoeman scored a pair during his turn at striker and Nicolas DeJesus added a goal as well. Notable assists from Nathan Cerquiera, Colin Moll, Nico Mason, Zeke Belote, and Jacob Williamson. Congratulations to Jacob C for another clean sheet and great work on the defensive side minimizing opportunities for the Chapel Hill attack.
Girls JV Volleyball
9/27: The Girls JV Volleyball team played another strong match against CHCH at home on Wednesday. Led by the serving of Camille Fisher, Claire Bennett, and Lydia Choi, the girls were able to win a straight-set victory over CHCH. Mackenzie Curtis, Julia Baia, Copley S, and Camille Fisher all had kills during the match, and Claire Bennett had multiple assists.
9/29: The JV girls extended their winning streak on Friday night, defeating Montrose School in straight sets. The girls were led by the strong all-around play of Mackenzie Curtis, Lydia Choi, and Allie Freedman. Camille Fisher, Claire Bennett, and Allie Sanders were key contributors from behind the service line.
Boys Middle School Soccer
9/28: What an exciting game for the Boys Middle School Soccer team on Thursday against Glen Urquardt School! High energy from start to finish. When the opponents scored first, the Cougars wasted no time in responding with a goal of their own. Sadly, towards the end, Glen seized an opportunity and secured the 4-3 victory. Regardless of the outcome, the Cougars’ performance was noteworthy. Their unity is growing stronger day by day. All players stepped up to back up the defense when needed, and capitalized on it with enthusiasm. Our audacious and fearless goalkeeper, Arman G (Gr. 8), earns a well-deserved recognition for his dedication and focused performance, as noted by the coaches. Goals for CCA were scored by Hudson B (Gr. 7), Judah L (Gr. 7), and Greyson B (Gr. 7). Kaleb S (Gr. 7) and Quinn W (Gr. 8) contributed incredible and crucial assists CCA’s goals.
Girls Middle School Soccer
9/28: The GMSS were victorious on Thursday against GUS. The girls won 5-0 as they played with a ton of heart and grit! Natalie P (Gr. 7) scored one goal and Isabella D (Gr. 7) and Marina S (Gr. 8) each scored two goals with multiple assists by Marie M (Gr. 8) and Kelly S (Gr. 7). Our strong defense was incredibly focused and goalie Isabella V (Gr. 6) had some great saves. Keep up the great effort girls!
