Spiritual Emphasis WeekJanuary 16th–January 19th Next week, January 16-19, the Upper School will have its inaugural Spiritual Emphasis Week! As we hit the halfway point of our school year and transition into semester 2, this Spiritual Emphasis Week is an opportunity for our Upper School community to reorient the eyes of our hearts toward Jesus. Each school day, we will make extra time and space to worship, pray, and hear from God’s Word as a community.
The theme for the week is “Filled with the Fullness of God,” which is drawn from Paul’s prayer for believers in Ephesians 3:14-21. Our Head of School, Mr. Anastasi, will be walking us through this prayer and helping us grow our trust in the Lord who is so generous toward us with his love, his grace, and his presence.
While this is happening inside the school building, you are invited to participate at home with your family as well! The link below contains a set of prayer prompts and worship songs for you to follow at home each day. Please consider joining us in prayer and worship next week!

Covenant Cougars in the News
Check out the write up in the Salem News Above the Rim section on CCA junior Bennett Plosker:
The Cougars of Covenant Christian Academy in Peabody are off to a 6-2 start, including a perfect 4-0 in Massachusetts Bay Independent League (MBIL) action. Junior point guard Bennett Plosker is a huge reason why.
The two-time team captain, who has started for three seasons, is averaging 22.6 ppg., two-and-a-half more than last winter (when he led the Cougars in scoring and helped guide them to an undefeated regular season mark). He’s also canned 16 three-pointers heading into Friday’s game with Boston University Academy.
The 5-foot-11 standout from Wenham comes from a family of hardcourt standouts, with brother Jordan a former Cougars’ standout and sister Logan going on from CCA to play at Messiah University.
“Bennett is one of the most competitive players I’ve been around, with the kind of drive to get better and succeed that any coach would dream about,” Rob Bradford, the Cougars’ head coach, said. “He’s relentless. It doesn’t matter who he’s going up against — having gone head-to-head with college-bound players since he was a freshman. Bennett will never back down.
“I truly believe Bennett might be the best kept secret on the North Shore. But word is starting to get out — and it should,” added Bradford. “He’s a special player.”
What’s making Covenant Christian’s hot start even more impressive is that all but one of its games have been played away from home. In fact, CCA has 10 of its first 11 games on the road. Its only two losses thus far have come against powerful Bancroft.

January 12th: CCA: 27, Montrose: 60
The CCA girls varsity played a strong Montrose squad on Friday, losing by the final score of 60-27. Liza Minogue led the scoring with 15 while Anne Hammond had 8 for the Cougars.
Boys JV Basketball:
January 8th: CCA: 45, Commonwealth: 22
The Boys JV Basketball team came out with a 45-22 victory over Commonwealth yesterday. Top scorers for the Cougars were Zeke with 13 points and Spencer with 10 points. Great point guard play and defense by Nate who did an excellent job finishing fast breaks, and even hitting an in between shot. Shout out to Jacob who hit a key three-pointer and also to Mikey Graves who scored his first basket of the season.
January 10th:
The Boys JV Basketball team played a hard fought game against a very talented Gann Academy, but ultimately took the loss. Coach Quail was proud of the boys for never giving up and for growing as a team. They all worked hard, demonstrated good sportsmanship and executed at the highest level possible for each player, all while having fun – win or lose!
January 12th: CCA: 44, BUA: 33
Big win for the Boys JV team against BUA on Friday. Shout out to Jacob Williamson who had 14 points and Spencer who had 13 points. Nick did a great job hitting down low shots and ended up adding 8 points to the total. Zeke also hit some key shots especially early in the game and had five points. Tristan was our defensive rock controlling their big men and grabbing rebounds. Mikey played excellent defense including one monster block on a BUA player. Noah showed great hustle and got some good playing time in the 2nd half.

They closed the gap in the 2nd half with Zeb B. leading all scorers with 11 points and Jack T., Tyler C., and Sammy W. all scoring as well. Defense was strong with Judah L. and Tyler C. having multiple steals and Zeb B. recording multiple blocks.
Girls Middle School Basketball:
January 11: CCA: 7, LCA: 28
CCA Girls Middle School basketball traveled to Lexington Christian Academy for their first road game of the season. It was a challenging affair as the team struggled to handle their first zone defense of the year. Nonetheless, the team competed throughout and with improved passing and team play were able to win the fourth quarter. The final score was 7-28. Chloe D., Lia P. and Olivia C. contributed to the scoring. Jillian I. had a strong defensive game.
Fun Note: Following the game the team was excited to find Ms. Oliver’s high school picture and meet her mom who is part of the faculty at LCA. (see pic below)
