SCHOOL NURSE

Medication Reminders

Violations regarding medication policies have been routinely observed at school within the past few weeks; therefore, please carefully review the following information.

Medication in the school setting is highly regulated by the state of Massachusetts. The CCA School Physician’s standing orders and written parental consent (given through the Magnus Health portal) allows the school nurse to administer Acetaminophen (Tylenol), Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin), aquaphor, calamine lotion, natural tears, and cough drops to students as needed.  (Yes, cough drops are considered a medication according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.)

Students are NOT allowed to carry ANY medication on their person or store it in their lockers, with the exception of inhalers and epinephrine injectors for logic and rhetoric school students who have completed medical paperwork on file. If students are found to be carrying their own cough drops or any other unauthorized medications, faculty will need to confiscate the medication.

If administration of ANY other medication is medically necessary for your child during school hours, (including prescription or over-the-counter, oral or topical, etc.) it will require a written physician’s order. Please contact the school nurse directly at 978-535-7100 or school.nurse@ccamail.org if your student requires medication or if you have questions.

Cougar Round Up!

Boys Varsity Soccer:

10/2: The Boys Varsity Soccer team took on CSW in a hard fought match ending in a 2-1 victory. Both teams played very well in the beginning of the game and CSW had a strong defense which delayed scoring, however, Bennett Plosker chipped the ball and scored CCA’s first goal of the game. Coming off of a high, Bennett then scored his second goal. The Cougars gave up one goal to CSW in the second half of the game. Great job, Cougars!

10/3: The Boys Varsity Soccer team defeated Waring in a decisive 4-1 victory. The Cougars played extremely well scoring 3 goals in the first half. The first goal was scored by Bennett Plosker, as he headed the ball over the goalie into the net. The second goal was also scored by Bennett Plosker with an assist from Jacob Libby. Waring then scored their first goal of the game, however, it was no match to the energy brought by the Cougars. Ethan Velasquez-Perdomo scored with an assist from Jacob Libby. The boys exited the first half coming off of a high which they carried into the second half. In the second half, Lukas Bardaro scored his first goal of the season with an assist from Tristen Vieira. The boys showed extreme determination, which paid off as they took the victory!

10/5: The Cougars lost a tough match to Austin Prep with a final score of 1-3. Both teams came into the game strong, with Ethan Velasquez-Perdomo scoring CCA’s only goal of the game by kicking the ball over the goalie and straight into the net. CCA’s defense played especially well, holding their own against Austin Prep’s strong offense. The first half ended in a 1-1 tie, both teams having met their match. At the beginning of the second half, the Cougars came out especially strong. Austin Prep scored their second goal on a Penalty Kick, then scored their 3rd goal of the game. Despite the boys strong efforts, it was not enough to defeat Austin Prep. The Cougars are determined to bring all that great energy into their game next Wednesday against Newman.

Girls Varsity Soccer

10/2: The Girls Varsity Soccer team won 3-0 against Cambridge School of Weston. Carys Walters scored first putting the Cougars ahead 1-0. Then Greta Baird had a great shot that put CCA up 2-0. Anne Hammond from defense drilled two players, got into shooting range and went for it – putting the girls ahead 3-0. All of CCA’s goals were scored in the first half but the girls continued to play hard in the second. CSW put up a good fight with only 11 players.

10/4: The Cougars lost 1-4 in a tough fight against Montrose. Liza Minogue scored off a throw in from Anne Hammond early in the game, but Montrose quickly reacted with 3 goals in the first half. The second half ended with a unfortunate PK that made the final score 1-4. Great effort by all, despite multiple injuries during the game.

Girls Varsity Volleyball

10/3: The Girls Varsity Volleyball team won in straight sets against Penguin Hall on Tuesday: 25-15, 25-9, 25-11. After a sluggish start, the girls found their energy and dominated the match with strong service and intelligent play at the net. The varsity girls were led by Julia Ray and Leanna Rothier on serve, who combined for 14 aces and each almost single-handedly won a set from behind the service line. Setter Riley Baird had 10 assists to six different attackers.

10/5: The Varsity volleyball team earned a gritty win over Gann in 4 sets: 25-15, 16-25, 25-23, 25-20. The pivotal moment in the match came in the 3rd set, when the Cougars went on an 11-2 run to rally from a 14-21 deficit to a 25-23 victory. For the match, the Varsity girls were led on offense by Julia Ray, who had 8 kills – including a kill to win the decisive 3rd set. Leanna Rothier, Magdalen Miller, and Shirley Whitmore contributed 6 kills each, and setter Riley Baird had 25 assists. On defense, Libby Beville and Maley Adair played some of their best volleyball of the season.

Varsity Cross Country

10/4: The Varsity Girls Cross Country Team raced against 11 other teams at the British International School of Boston. The 3 mile course was extremely grueling and difficult. The girls conquered hill after hill after hill, uneven ground, and tall grass. Times were “out the window” and it was all about completing! The Cougars persevered! Official Results: Beatrice Kline: 32:51 (35th place), Ally Hall: 33:10 (38th place), Lily Stuart: 34:40 (39th place), Elle Blosser: 35:13 (41st place).

Boys JV Soccer

10/2: The JV Boys soccer team won a commanding game against Commonwealth dominating all aspects of gameplay. Good passing and off-ball movement let to a 5-0 lead at half, but Commonwealth kept working hard to bring the final score to 6-2. The game ended with keeper Andrew Burgos blocking a penalty kick caused by a handball by a defender who will not be named. Oscar Hinojosa, Colin Moll, Nathan Cerquiera each scored goals and Alexander Sands scored two. Great passing and assists by Kyle Badaro, Davi Silva, Nathan Cerquiera and Alexander Sands. Nico Mason caused an own-goal by the other side on a left-footed cross.

10/4: The JV Boys soccer team won at Gann with a final score of 4-0. Commanding midfield play, led by Caleb Hoeman & Nick DeJesus, kept the ball on the Gann side of the field throughout the game.  Alexander Sands led all scorers with two goals, providing great hustle in the front of the field. The team continued to effectively pass long balls, like long cross from Colin Moll to Nathan Cerquiera who volleyed to Alexander Sands for the goal. Christian Moll got an assist to Nathan Cerquiera on a deep pass from midfield and Nick DeJesus scored on a great run receiving a pass from Nathan Cerquiera. Players showed increasing confidence in this game. Andrew Burgos aggressively challenged players to seal off our defensive zone and Zeke Belote driving attacks down the wings demonstrate how much players are understanding their role on the field. Jacob C earned a shutout but was barely able to touch the ball – what a good problem to have!

Girls JV Volleyball

10/3: The Girls JV volleyball team won in straight sets against Penguin Hall on Tuesday. The girls fought through a tight first set, winning 25-22, and then they found their groove and dominated the second set, winning 25-7. Strong service from Camille Fisher and Allie Freedman led the way.

10/5: The JV volleyball team saw their winning streak come to an end on Thursday at Gann, where they lost in straight sets. The JV girls were scrappy and persistent, but Gann was able to make a few more plays in key moments during the match.

Boys Middle School Soccer

10/2: The Boys Middle School Soccer team suffered a 5-2 defeat against North Shore Christian School. MacArthur K. and Judah L. contributed the two goals for the Cougars. Both coaches and players remain committed to the concept of teamwork and mutual support. Throughout the match, CCA demonstrated unwavering determination and a strong desire to win. Unfortunately, the opponent seized an opportunity and secured the victory.

10/5: The Boys Middle School soccer team had their first win of the season against Glen Urquhart School with a final score of 5-2! Grayson B. was the star of the show, scoring an impressive three goals, while Caleb H. chipped in two more. Grayson now holds the record for the most goals this season, and this game marked Caleb’s first and second goals of the year. A big shoutout to Quinn W. who stayed super focused and stopped any attacks from the other team. Jonathan P. and Jack T. protected the goalie and quickly sent the ball back into play using their bodies skillfully to defend and block the opposing team’s shots. Kaden L. and Zebolun B. showed incredible leadership on the defensive line, maintaining their focus throughout the entire game. Hudson B. also showed exemplary leadership by initiating forward attacks and quickly returning to the defensive line, regardless of the score. This win was all about teamwork, hard work, and everyone coming together.

Girls Middle School Soccer

10/5: The Girls Middle School Soccer team played aggressively to the end against Glen Urquhart School with a final score of 0-2. Throughout both halves the girls worked together as a team. They kept a strong defense and took multiple shots at the net. Come cheer on the girls this Tuesday, October 10th as they take on Tower. The game starts at 3:30pm on CCA’s home fields!

Middle School Cross Country

10/2: The Middle School Cross Country team competed against Tower School and The Pike School in a 2 mile race. The course was a challenging mix of grass, trails, pavement, hills, and stairs, and the squad ran terrific! 7th grader Rachel B achieved her personal goal – beating a competitor from Tower who had beat her in our previous race! Official Results: Drew M: 14:58 (2nd place), Braylan F: 18:41 (9th place), Rachel B: 19:59 (12th place), Abby B: 27:16 (27th place).
